Best tools, hex drivers

At the moment I'm using Thunder Tiger tools as recommended by an rc shop, I've only got phillips but was going to get a set of hex aswell. At the moment I have a set of Kinchrome allen/hex wrench set which are used in the motor industry (well over in Oz they are).

I think I'm going to cry when I see the price of these Hudy tools aren't I.

OH MY. See they have bits for air tools. Wonder if on the pits they have pit crews all kneeling around the car changing out wheels and refueling them

I assume you took up the lifetime warranty on the ends you snapped?

I've snapped one 1.5mm driver tip so far in a lot of use over the last couple of years - it was replaced.

I used the Wera hex drivers previously; they do wear (a!) over time, but they're quite long so easy to cut down and make as-new.

As I wanted a bunch of hex drivers I did some Googling. I eventually settled on some EDS drivers (EDS Racing Products, also available from Midland helis IIRC). Most reviews said they're about the same durability as the Hudy tools, but they're much cheaper. Time will tell.

Never been a big fan of Wera tools as I've come across them at work.

Not sure what these are like but Irazola screwdrivers are pretty damn tough I've had mine for years.

i use the thunder tiger hex drivers
and snap-on hex sockets

any hex driver is only as good as the tip
with a lot of use the hex will round off, just file or grind back the rounded section for a nice tip again

a selection of imperial hex drivers/keys are useful for a worn/rounded metric screw head ,if you get the correct size it will be just bigger than the metric one and hopefully undo the screw

for what its worth i have a set of these as well as the align stuff and wera oh and some bondhus but these seem to be the most used ,have them now over 18mths and no sign of wear. Fast Lad Performance

Personally I love Hudy. Expensive but worth it. EDS are also fine tools too...

I find it best too use someone elses, then if it breaks it doesnt matter, cause they will replace them for free

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and input. It seems like a pretty big endorsement for Hudy and a few other close runners worth looking at as well.

I will start getting something soonish.

The point about renewing the tips by sawing them down, this is fine if it's a hex all the way down. The drivers I have now only have about 1/2 inch of hex at the tip and the rest is just round like a screwdriver, so once they get too worn they're not renewable as such.

On a related note; what I am going to do on the Align starting wand is use the hacksaw approach and get a flat end rather than a ball using a spare hex wand I have, just need to drill the holes so it will fit on the Align base. I think the extra engagement will (hopefully) prevent further wear to any of the heli starting adaptors.
