  • Best tools, hex drivers

OK, after recently having the inconvenience of a few rounded hex nuts, a rounded hex starting wand etc (and not entirely my fault mind you).

My question is this; Who makes the absolute best hex drivers / wrenches on the planet? They need to be very accurate in size and made of hardened steel.

I have a set of hex drivers by 'Ansmann' that seem OK. I have a few of the little sets of L shaped hex wrenches.

My helis are, TT Raptors, Ely.Q Ultimate, Some Robbes, a Hirobo Evo 50 etc. So no big Aligns helis at the moment. I think they all have the stock screws except the Hirobo which has the blingy Quick UK screws (I think).

I have noticed some hex divers fit better than others and obviously loose fitting begin the rounding process.

Anyway, I probably need to replace some and I want to get the best I can find.

If price is anything to go by, check out the PB Swiss Tools sold by Fastlads.

      http://www.fast-lad.co.uk/store/pb-9...er-p-7847.html

Having said that, i have been using the Align set of Hex Drivers for ages now, and never had a problem with them. Had to replace a few shafts in my time, but that was due to me, not the tool itself.

Most rounded heads are due to the screws themselves.

Yeah, I like the sound of 'spring steel'.

In looking through their products I now realise for the first time how those starter boxes for cars work

I shall have a more thorough browse soon.

Trillian, Have you got my phone tapped?

Kwickkwack an I had this exact conversation only yesterday and decided a post asking this exact question was required. LOL
When you've bought your set of hex's pop a post on and let us all know how good or bad they are. Like you I'm getting pie eye'd off with rounding heads off due to poor quality tool's.
I've taken a look at the Bluepoint and Mac hex drivers but neither make the thing's small enough for what we want to use them for. It would be real good to get some kind of review going so we all know what's tat and whats not.

                      'Must be syncronicity or something.
For me just the critical mass of things being rounded off and it starting me
thinking I simply must get on top of this stuff to avoid any more of it.

The most important ones are the four or five sizes, I guess between 1.5mm and 3mm (I'm guessing, not even totally sure what ones get used most as yet) and the smaller the more important that the fit is really snug and the metal is tempered enough.

I'll research this a bit and look into the Hudy ones (I don't know the prices yet). It will be well worth it at the very least for those 4 or 5 really important hex sizes to be the absolute beez neez.

1.5mm to 3mm (4 hex drivers) are the most used of them all for me. I also use a 4mm for 90 size blade bolts and a few other areas.
I have a set of Hudy drivers and while they are expensive, I have used nothing better as yet. They are really very good!

                        Cheers,

XTM racing hex drivers are simply amazing IMO.
It's all about the size of your chopper...

I have used these for a while now and while there is little sign of wear and they are a good fit, the handles are too small for comfort and it is difficult to exert any real force so the larger sizes are not as useful as they could be.

I've just ordered a range of the Swiss tools from Fast Lad so I'll see how I get on with them during my next build.
