3600 mah Sub C cells. Never a problem on flights.

But heavy and the heli is nose-heavy.

    Think I might go Lipo.

I have 2 Outrage XPRX 2S 2500mAh. Running a AR6200, and MultiGov pro, I guess about 6 or 7 tanks from each? They seem about the right size for balance with my setup.

I have some spare 3 cell lipos. So I would need a voltage regulator to get down to 4.8v (5.0v)

        I don't think a 401 / 9254 works on 6v, so which regulator to get to 5v ??

I know there are switched etc, so some advice may help both of us.

        Thanks

I use a 5000mA, 2s Lipo pack. Light enough to make no impact to CofG.

Ooops forgot to actually answer your question: Used with an Align 2in1 regulator it easily gives 10 flights, plenty for a day out!

Derrick If its for your Velo bear in mind its a tight fit under the canopy..something like a 2200 2 cell Lipo.

50, Currently running 2250 Lipos get 4 safe flights at mo taking me to 35% roughly. This is in part due to the cells taking only a cold weather charge mostly (about 90% capacity of the charger)

In warmer weather I get 5. This is flying fairly hard so can pull a bit of current. DS8915,s 620 blades, NovaRossi at 2000-2170

A similiar option is a Fromeco 2600 lion pack which gave me 6 flights or 5 in winter but the Lions are preferably slow charged overnight.

The benifit of using a Lipo is you can whack it on your charger for a fast top-up. After 4 flights I make a cuppa whilst on the charger and its at 75-80% within about 20mins + Lipos can be had for £15-£20 if you need to swap it out for a fast turnaround. Personally I like to leave my Radio installs alone once I'm happy with them and just charge in the heli.

I run the same setup in my Trex700 but get one less flight per charge.

I've got a Duralite switched 5.1V regulator on my 90 which has been excellent for 2.5 years now. No need for a tail step down.

I think Duralite used to do a 5.3V version and the usual 6V version as well.

Also there's the Fromeco Arizona reg with pin-flag switch which although looking a bit 'agricultural', works very well and has an adjustable output - I also have one of these currently set to 5.1V.

I run a Flighttech 8A linear regulator using a 3000mAh 2S1P Li-Po - not flown more than 3 flights (around 30 - 35 mins in fuel) but Li-Po has 50%ish at re-charge. I have a couple of packs in case I need to fly more - these are charged on the cold weather charge though so probably get another flight when its warm...

reg is currently set to 5.1V but I plan to raise this to 5.3V shortly.

Most regs seem to use 2S rather than 3S packs and there is no need for the high C ratings which means the pack sizes are small and compact

Have you worked out how heavy the pack needs to be to get the C of G in the correct place? I see no point in making the model nose heavy for just a couple of more flights. If the pack is a bit light it is easier to put some weight in the nose.

You may not care about the C of G but if you need alot of trim for a nose heavy model that trim will have an opposite effect when the model is inverted.

I'm doing all that now. I may be able to adjust the position of the cells to make the C of G correct, but whilst looking at it I thought a lipo setup would be a choice. I have some spare 3s, but these too are heavy and all the regulators seem to work on 2s anyway.

A lipo setup would also allow a switchglow too.

Guess in the end I'll jigger with the sub C cells or go back to AA cells and have a couple of back-up packs for those longer flight days (if there are any this winter !!)

                              Cheers
