  • Disposing of old nitro fuel

    Hi,

I have some old nitro fuel that I will not be using and was wondering what I can do with it apart from keeping it my garage for ever more.. and it's spoiled now as I used an old detergent bottle to hold it while I swished out my new container so using it is not an option.

Options are to put it in a large pan and let it burn or use it to light BBQs but I have no idea how it will burn if I put a match to it..

my local tip has a waste oil container but not sure about pouring it in there as it's a bit more that just oil..

    any thoughts ??

          Hi

Yep light the BBQ and bonfire or I some times use it to clear weeds in the garden, pore on and light, very satifying:-)

That's if it hasn't already been used to set fire to Janek:-)

          Cheers

I thought it would only ignite when under pressure? Someone told me that several years ago and I actually tried putting a lit match in a small amount of fuel and it wouldn't burn (think it was 10% Weston fuel).

              Nitro is highly flammable

Never tasted it on any bbq food we cook at our field....the burnt bits must overpower it

Well maybe the fact that the fuel wouldn't light with a burning match in it explains why I had so much grief at the time trying to get the damn engine to run well and gave up on rc helis for many years!

Another vote for burning it, then when the container is empty, hold a flame to the open lid with the container on its side.... WOOOSH :P

My friend showed me this video a while ago, could use the fuel for this, if you got an old supersoaker lying around in the garage?...... Seriously don't try it (as it states in the video!)

Ah good old ProSynth, we also couldn't get this stuff to light our bonfire either !. Looks like screen wash, and probably is.

All other fuels burn very well, although you do have to be very CAREFUL, because methanol burns with an invisible flame in daylight !

                          cheers guys..

I feel a burning coming on.... just need to find something suitable to set light to.

                          Shame I don't have a camcorder.

Ah that's the stuff! Clearly it's about as flammable as mineral water then
