What i suppose i would like to know is how good i am and if i am falling behind the "average" flyer out there, i.e i have had the Blade 400 since 3rd July, am hovering tail in and a bit sideways, not nose in, but still prefer to follow the heli around at the moment. LOL.

Had it up about 15 odd ft, and landed successfully, and done a bit of forward flying and spinning round the tail (not at the same time) LOL.

    So am i about average??

    Cheers

Wow, a lot of mixed replies, thanks guys.

Managed to put 3 batteries throught it in the last 2 days (have a wife and son so cant get that much time, although the wife is a diamond and doesnt mind at all, but i dont want to take the pee LOL).

Got it hovering hands off for a bit, and am really enjoying the fact that i can now do controlled hovering in the garden, whereas before that would not be anywhere big enough!! LOL, so in that respect i am coming along a bit.

Phoenix is excellent, but the only problem i find is that in phoenix it seems to be easier to see the orientation of the heli. Where i fly it is surounded by VERY tall trees, maybe i need to change the colour of the canopy (curently yellow).

As the other day i was a bit daring and flew it about 30-40 ft away from me and about 15-20 ft up, as the background was trees, i found it almost impossible to see which way round it was LOL...... managed to land it ok, but the heli tipped at the last minute as it was side on.

Damage was only a flybar and the usual feathering shaft. Changed the main shaft aswell to be on the safe side but kept it incase. Its amazing how small it gets so quickly though.... LMAO.

      Cheers

I got a 2ch heli for xmas 2008 and thrashed that round the house for a couple of week. Bought an mCX in Feb this year closely followed by a Trex 500 and more recently a Raptor 30.

In the last month I have gone from reasonabley controlled hovering into forward flight and ropey figure 8s. TBH I think I was ready for forward flight sooner but it was just a case of having the bottle to push the stick forward.

I would say your doing well enough if you only started a short time ago. Just keep flying it's the only way to progress and I understand the whole heli / family balance as I have a young family myself...

Been at it on and of about two years... still pretty crap..just get a mental block with bringing heli towards me since a nitro heli crash that nearly parted my hair.. and thats whats it's about.. the ability to overcome you fear and turn it in..

No subsitute for stick and sim time.. my flying has improved leaps and bound this summer.. thing is flying by yourself.. you lack the drive to push it to the next level

As said before.. you have all the time in the world to get better.. would rather enjoy my flying as it is .. rather than be so frustrated, I bin it... for plank flying

It is the ultimate RC experience without a dout, and the hardest to master.. or tame even

Gosh, this is making me feel old! I've been flying helis for 35 years now!!! Started in 1974! I've been flying fixed wing RC since 1965, and started out on control-line in 1960!

But that's not to say I'm particularly good at any of them.....!!!!

Been flying helis for just under a month, fallen on it pretty hard to be honest, a CX2 (great fun), Mini Pred (pretty shite), T-Rex 500 electric (love it), T-Rex 600 Nitro (love it), Phoenix flight sim and a DSX9 to drive them.

Got a solid hover with the 500 and 600, started to move it about a bit now. Loving every minute at the club.
                  Lots of aeroplanes and helis.

getting on for 4 months now,,started out with a 20 quid piece of 2 ch Syma plastic and had such a ball of time, I went and got a CX2, then a Gaui EP200, then the Mini Titan (absolutely love it !) then a Swift 16 as a project (I get as much of a buzz outa building them as I do flying them) then the Lepton (feckin' awesome build quality !),,,,can not nose-in hover yet, but it's coming, and the beauty of all this ? ,,,,there is always something new to learn, starting to study gyroscopic precession and Betts effect,,,mind boggling !
