  • 3s Lipo Test Results

Ill finish this thread tomorrow, but for now, heres some data i gathered this evening on my 450 Pro. I flew the Revo Platinum first, then the Rockamp, then the Maxpoly 30c. Each flight had a gap of around half hour to allow everything to coll sufficiently.

    Revo 2200 40c Platinum: approx 16 cycles

4min flight, took 1710mA to recharge it
    internal resistances 4.2 4.6 4.9 m ohm
Pack temp at end of flight 101.4 degrees F
    High Pack amps 46.53A
    Low pack Voltage 10.21v
    high watts 507
    initial headspeed 3551
    End headpseed 3332

    Rockamp 2200 30c: approx 16 cycles

4min flight took 1733 to recharge
    internal resistances 3.7 3.8 3.6 m ohm
Pack temp at end of flight 98.8 degrees F
    High Pack amps 46.65A
    Low pack Voltage 10.28v
    high watts 495
    initial headspeed 3611
    End headpseed 3332

    Maxpoly 2200 30c: approx 40 cycles

4 min flight took 1677mA to recharge
    internal resistances 5.3 5.4 4.8
pack temp at end of flight 112.4 degrees F
    High Pack amps 44.99A
    Low pack Voltage 9.61v
    high watts 437
    initial headspeed 3494
    End headpseed 3332

from this id say the revo and the rockamp are very very similar, with the rockamps having the slight edge, showing lower internal resistances and handling the heat marginally better. this is how it feels in flight too, very very similar. The maxpoly is noticably down in power from the other 2, this was very obvious in flight with the hedspeed really dropping in fast aileron tic-tocs. The stiff breeze which was present in the other 2 flights had dropped quite a bit for this one, so i expect the numbers would have been a tad lower again if it had been the same. Having said that i still think its a pretty decent pack, especially if your not pushing quite so hard.

ive attatched the .FDR files, but had to rename them to Zip's, so if you download these to view with the eagletree software youll have to re-name them

hope this is of some use to someone

jamie, the 28 quid loong max has more power than a revo plat i'm testing. i managed to spike 65 amps with it on my 450 pro with 2221-6 and 700w (versus 680 on revo plat) peak if memory serves. the low voltage on the loong max was 10.29v. unfortunately i binned the data logs.

the only question we don't know about the loong max is life time. we know the warranty sucks so don't buy one expecting replacements if it fails, which is why most will buy the revos, mike stands by what he sells.

    cheers

        Loong max 2250 3S1P 30C-40C Lipo Battery

again, please remember the warranty is non existant so your saving some money because of that. also not sure of lifespan. i'll be impressed if they outlast the revo plats.

        cheers

I'd agree with Paul on this one, my Loong Max (same one as his) also outperforms my Revo platinum. Again though, not had it long enough to find out the cycle life.

            Jamie,

Great write up mate. Plan and easy to see the difference between these packs. The revo's and the Rockamps look and are very similar in performance. I'm running x3 revo platinum's in my Beam with great results.

I think certainly for the foreseeable future my pack choice will remain with Revo's. As I see it they are the same price as Rockamps practicly but the service I have recieved from Mike at Aurrora has been 100% and can't see reason to jump ship atm.

Having alternative manufactures of packs give us is choice which can only be a good thing

            Nice one again Jamie
            Cheers Matt

thanks for the efforts chaps, my 450pro is just about ready to maiden which will weather permitting be tomorrow, got a couple of rock amps to have a go with, also got some older revo's so I can hammer them while im bedding in the revos.
              All the best

I have been testing a couple of packs for the hobby hangar but don't know what they are, the labels were removed so i was not aware who made them, the 30c pack was very similar to overlander extremme pack, in fact though slightly down on power was more consistant through the pack and had more power at the end, was flying it last night in fact on my lads beam and makes the heli come alive compared to standard 25c packs, hoping they are going to get some of these in as they are a lower cost and as good.
I have also ordered some lipos from the US to give a try, will post something on here when they are tested but lets just say a 30c 2200mah 3S pack for 17.50 quid posted, got to be worth a try.

I will at some point swap the motor out for the scorpion 2221-8 I have here an do the same logs again. I'm also quite tempted to try a loong max pack, although their warranty statement does put me off a bit.

it's a nice pack Jamie, not had any issues with mine to date. When flying with the revos I kept thinking I'm sure this has more than the Revo......when I datalogged sure enough it had but as you have found comparing Rockamp to Revo it's not a night and day difference you just have the feeling that it's giving a little more. The bit the Loong Max does have over Rockamp and Revo is price but as mentioned this is due to a definite absence of any customer backup/warranty.

well i had some more flights today, changed the motor and esc over to the scorpion 2221-8 and 55a commander and logged them. Its gone from 507 watts up to 595 watts. the power is insane, totally unboggable! The first logged flight was with no wind whatsoever on the rockamp, the second, the wind had picked up to a similar level to the other night (Around 20mph) which was on the revo, so take the numbers with a bit of a pinch of salt. i didnt get a chance to fly the maxpoly. it should also be noted that the outside temp was much higher (73 degrees thursday evening compared to 82 degrees today which will definately have pushed the final temps up).

                      Rockamp 2200: approx 18 cycles

4min flight, took 1834mA to recharge it (gonna have to drop the timer to 3:30ish)
Pack temp at end of flight 111.4 degrees F
                      High Pack amps 50.06A
                      Low pack Voltage 10.33v
                      high watts 550
                      initial headspeed 3498
                      End headpseed 3176

                      Revo 2200 40c Platinum: approx 18 cycles

4min flight, took 1850mA to recharge it (gonna have to drop the timer to 3:30ish)
Pack temp at end of flight 112.7 degrees F
                      High Pack amps 55.05A
                      Low pack Voltage 10.14v
                      high watts 595
                      initial headspeed 3438
                      End headpseed 3094

conclusion? the scorpion is insane, but does take a bit more from the pack, so if your pushing it hard and want the power then go for it. i flew with a 14 tooth pinion (lower kv that the original motor - 3595 versus 3700), but with a 13 the power would still be pretty good, and importantly the motor comes off cool to touch unlike the align finger print remover. its also noticably quieter in flight, quite earily so actually - very smooth sounding.

Haven't managed a proper flight with my rock amp yet, last time i had a tail problem with my rave and had to land it, hoping maybe tomorrow to give it it's first proper go

Just a little update to this thread. My rockamp is still going very very well, super strong performance, the revo has dropped off very very slightly and the maxpoly is pretty cack in comparison, and rarely gets used now.

I also flew one of the new Outrage NRG 35c packs this week. Initial impressions were good - it had great headspeed and power initially, but it then dropped off after a minute or so, quite noticably, and the head speed was really down on the RockAmp and Revo Platinum by the end of the flight. Not particulalry impressed to be honest, and it came off noticably warmer than my other packs. For £36 i guess it's ok, but not sure its actually a 35c pack as advertised, well either that or the other 2 are under-rated.
