  • Don't be a Prat (Like ME)

I could make something up, but I've always been honest on here, so: -

When I got my heli, I needed somewhere near to fly. I found a recreation ground nearby which is always quiet - not very big, but I thought, big enough.
I've posted my progress on here, so most regulars know I'm a novice, but trying hard. Well, I went out today, and totally lost control of the heli. No excuses, my fault. The heli ended up totalled IN THE PITCH AND PUTT NEXT DOOR!

I was so lucky, no-one around, so no-one hurt. BUT I could have seriously injured someone due to my stupidity.

I won't be flying again till the autumn till I have time to get to the nearest club. If anyone wants to call me a d***head or worse, feel free, I've already done it.

I just want to say to all the other flyers on here that fly in parks, playing fields, etc, and are really too close to other people, PLEASE THINK AGAIN - I was lucky, I just totalled my heli. Could have been a lot worse.

    Thanks for reading.
    Brian

          HI Brian

Really sorry to hear of your mishap. I am not going to call you a d**khead, nor is anyone else. We have all probably flown in places that we shouldn't, and most of us have got away with it. Its only when something goes wrong do we realise what lethal weapons they can be.

Hope the damage is not too bad, and you get it fixed soon. Perhaps you should slow down a bit. There is no rush to learn. Maybe spend some more time on the basics?
          Cheers Russ

Good Man for being real honest

Too bad about the heli, but its nothing compared to human life,

I myself find my self in a situation where i fly at a smallish park, but its very quiet and there is plenty of room for people to walk by,

even tho it looks small on cam :P -- but ive took the hard advice from members off here, and tommrow ile be going down to my local farmer so see if he wouldent mind be flying there!

I hope you get your Heli sorted quick, before the addiction and widrawel symptoms come back

unlucky with regards to totalling your heli :-(

I am sure you wouldn't have taken off with people near you and like you said nobody was hurt so don't beat yourself up about it.

After that first sudden loss of high up orientation scare, I think most including myself search hard for that secluded flying spot or propper flying field. You know when you've found the perfect flying spot as your flying will improve drastically with the extra peace of mind!

Thanks, Lee. Appreciate it. I'm putting a shopping list together - FL should be happy!

Unlucky Brian but i don't know why you feel so bad about where you were flying, if you had checked no one was around then you checked, a bit different if you are flying with people around, now that is silly.
Don't feel bad mate, but maybe see if you can find a more private area where you could fly

                      Don't be so guilty Brian.

Just think you could have been flying a Raptor 90 in the living room.

You also stated you had the sense to see all was clear before you actually flew the heli so really no hardship at all mate and for gods sake don't beat yourself up about it..

Most of all Brian you are bloody honest and came on here and told of your crash and your guilt..

That takes a real man to do that.

Take heed mate, There will be poeple reading this tonight who have done lots worse and said bugger all.

Re-Build and fly another day Brian.

Let me know if there is anything parts wise you might want. I still have a few bits left over from when I had it.

How about a free canopy to start with.

Shoot me a PM with your details, If that's knackered I will post it on to you FOC.

Takes a bit of courage to show such honesty if you feel that you have been wrong (not saying you have) but it also shows wisdom to share for that reason - to try and avoid others taking risks.

Sharing the lesson means it is a lesson - well... shared - if you see what I mean. I like others learn a lot just from following threads etc - so I see this as another useful comment for all to see.

That said - get the darn thing fixed and get flying soon - with club or whatever but hell these are great months to be missing out on!

Hi Brian... mate been there... your no D**k head.. just a heli addict.. it's a wake up call for sure.. but as you say no harm done except your pride and heli.

Learn from this and move on.. I get brave moments like what you had with your heli.. and thats when the experienced flyer.. knows how to get out of that situation..

Guess it pays to get the basics nailed before you become to bravo with flying way out there.. sure its boring, but the rewards will be that much greater when you can do it

                          And on a lighter note

Bet you nearly shit your pants ... when you realized what was happening.. that's why god gave us throttle hold on our TX

Brian.....really sorry to hear about your heli and trust me your no pratt, infact your highly respected on the forum, why, well your honesty for one. The rest is just being Brian from Wales....

This heli addiction we ALL have starts to become dangerous as soon as you spool that engine/motor up....and in danger I mean the potential of accidents and un-intentional mishaps......

…….we all at times take chances and because of this we also learn from are what ifs…

                            I had a dilemma this evening…..

Last night I packed all my heli gear ready to fly at a club I’ve just joined in Soberton Hampshire (MVSA) after work. Got to the field hoping someone might be there as solo flying is not allowed due to the isolation and me being a novice member, yep no one there…….so I returned home and tried the field behind where I live…..totally full of villagers enjoying the sun…..cant blame them really, so pretty cheesed off just to get my Heli flying frustration under control I hovered my Beam in the back garden for about 1 min……which, in all honesty I’m banned from flying as all the missus’s flowers are out….she’s away tonight so I got away with it but……we all take risks…….and if I’d have damaged her flowers trust me I’d be dead…..

Brian if I can help in any way please let me know…….

I will recommend you also get a 450 heli…….to practice with rather than keep crashing the 500…..

……I swear by my Twister Storm 3D and Beam……

Brian, you've learned a very valuable lesson, and had the balls to admit it in open forum. . . . . . but even better, you've given your hard earned lesson to everyone else, I hope others will take notice and TAKE HEED.

                              Thanks Brian
