Beware the Blandford Fly in your field.....it bites!

Flying yesterday and I felt a bite on my right hand, set the heli down, brushed my hand and carried on…..

When I got home I noticed blood on the area which was itching like mad and slightly swollen…washed it off had a beer and thought nothing of it..

Woke up this morning with the back of my hand swollen and very stiff finger joints, trouble is it’s got worse since…..apparently it will go down in two days…..

Went to the same field today and took me shorts off …..!!!

Only problem with summer, i have been bitten a couple of times but never had that sort of reaction, looks painfull mate

I can still grip a tin of Scrumpy Jack! ....

...although I cant get my signet ring off though it's that swollen....

Keep an eye on that finger mate, if you start to lose feeling or tingly sensation you night have to get it cut off

Not normally Martin.....granted I've spent many years abroad and mozzies have had their fair share of my Blood....but nothing this bad!

Eddie, you tried taking any anti-histamines? (hayfever medication) might just calm the reaction down.

dont tell know1 but i use oil of ulay skin so soft cream when i go flying. the flys/bugs dont like it and wont bother you

Thanks Andy, yes tried that this afternoon...not touched it!.....

...infact the swellings moved upto my wrist and uncomfortable in the joint.....apparently if it starts affecting your glands then visit the quack.....not there just yet
