  • ar7000 and 401 locking problems

    hi all,
im having problems getting my ar7000 rx and my 401 gyro to lock at the same time. iv found that the gyro will lock before the rx then when the rx locks i loose the gyro.
someone down the club said that i might need a bigger rx battery, i currently have a 4.8v 1500mAh but am looking for a bigger one.
also he said that the switch might be causing the fault.
iv tryed wiring the battery straight into the rx so i can iliminate a dodgy switch. it still takes a few attempts to get both to lock together.

the heli is a rappy 50 with anolog servos if this of any use.

any ideas to point me in the right direction?

    thanks Jonathan

i have something similar with my ar7000 and gp750.

when i turn the heli on the gyro does not lock first time. i have to power of the rx and switch it on a second time. the gyro then holds.

    weird one.

Not sure quite why this would work but it might be worth a shot re-binding the Tx and Rx. I've known it to cure some issues but god only knows why it did.

      I have an AR6200 and 401.

I have an AR6200 and gy 401, on a raptor 50. I have also experienced this problem. Rebinding should do the trick

I have found that with 2.4 you have to switch on the rx with the transmitter in HH mode. or it will not lock correctly, it didnt matter on 35Mhz I could switch on in either mode and it would lock into HH when I flipped the switch, but not on 2.4.
          Hope this helps

Kwickkwak is right on the money, the Spektrum needs to be switched on in HH for the receiver and gyro to lock. I have a T Rex 600 with a DX7/AR7000/401 combo and it works every time.

I have had the same problem this weekend with the same rx/gyro combination, but it has taken more than two attempts to get it to hold. I always switch on in HH also. I will try rebinding as suggested and hopefully that will solve it.

                  Thanks

As already said, re-binding should sort it. I've had it a few times on a couple of models.

im in hh and it sometimes takes longer than 2 goes. sometimes 4 maybe 5.
ill rebind and let you all know.

while im here what size rx battery would you recommend. bigger mah the better? or go lipo?
                      Thanks

There is a detailed discussion of this issue with Spektrum Rx and various HH Gyros on the Spartan site > LINK <

This may be of some use, at least the first couple of paras give an idea as to why it is happening.

                          cheers pete,
so if i dont adjust the settings in my tx for the rappy and rebind it should cure the problem im getting because it is learnt the new default position.

or have i just misunderstood that link.

I'm no expert on this, but the way I understand the Spartan info is that it is very important that the rudder stick is properly centered (including trims) when binding, to ensure that the Spektrum Rx sends the same memorised centre position as the 'actual' centre position to the Gyro when it is initialising.

I think that will also explain why quickly powering off and on the Rx works as the Gyro is now getting the actual rudder stick info instead of the memorised data.

Clear as mud. My brain will now self destruct in ten seconds.

i have this on all my helis ,sometimes they lock on first time and then sometimes you have to switch off and start again, but i also found that you must switch tx on and wait about 10/15 secs then switch on heli and thats seems better as most people switch heli on too quick and the system wont boot up.
