Thanks to KnifeEdge for chipping in on his Avro experiences. However, if I were the only 700 owner commenting on this thread I'd tell you they don't strip gears (as mine has never done it)......which is why you need a number if people to be flying the heli to really find the problems (if there are any).

I went Aurora for my first 90.... a cosidered purchase after wanting a 700 for a while.

I decided that the cost of getting the 90 in the air was for me considerable as i had no running gear at all and the Aurora was £300 more for the kit than the 700. In the grand scheme of things not a major factor.

The build quality and feel good factor pays for me as its a stunning machine and presented a challenge and further lurning curve in terms of build and set up etc. It has taken some time to get right... and maybe at my level i would get as much performance from a 700 but it just has that something extra that adds to the 90 experience for me.

Bit like having a Honda fireblade..... or a Ducati. Both fly like the wind but the ducati would be my choice (if i was a crazy biker dude!!!!)

Lets be clear though...... its what floats your boat in the end that matters

And i aint anti Align.... far from it, as i have and love three of them in my fleet

Out of the all of them I would not suggest a 700.

They are OK, but once you've put a few gallons through then things wear quick. I've done 4-5 gallons with mine and I've stripped a gear and just done a clutch. I really like flying it, but the build quality is clearly not as good as some others.

I always loved the Vibe 90 but current JR prices are a joke and paying those prices seems silly to me so wouldn't consider the SG.

The Avro has got to be worth consideration as most people you hear talking about it seem to like it, but as Ash says not that many people seem to own one.

The Aurorra has always looked a great heli in terms of looks and capabilty. Matt has promised me a flight with his and I'm looking forward to how it feels compared to the 700.

well its a mixed ball of responses...

For me it depends on what your wanting out of the heli.

Just go for what takes your fancy...

I'm too biased when comes to the .90's having had Robbe, Mini Air, JR, Avant the only one that I kept the longest and was gutted to sell was the Synergy N9.

been there done that got the t shirt several times.

for sports flying 90s just arent worth the money.

they cost a lot more to buy
they cost a lot more to kit out
they cost a lot more to fly
they cost a lot more to crash

and because of all that you dont throw it around as much as a 50

the only advantage they have is they have more presence in the sky which is an advantage in a competition.

I have to agree with Ade, I own a Synergy N9 which is currently sat on the shelf waiting to be repaired (criminal, I know). I much prefer to throw around the 600's and learn 3D with these due to repair cost's, 90 size machine will cost in the region of £200 - £350 where as the 50 size £100 - £200. These figures do depend on severity of crash but when learning 3D it's not going to go quietly...

As said in other posts, it's down to what floats your boat if that's a 90 then you will go ahead and get one, just like when I wanted a 90 everyone was telling me I was mad, still got one.....
                Thanks,

I'm happy with my 700 and don't mind changing a main gear every 4 or 5 gallons for piece of mind. Not a big deal. No clutch issues and no link issues either. They may not be bullet proof but spares costs are almost the same as the 600 so the odd bump won't require a bank robbery! The point of the 700 is to offer an affordable 90.

Back on topic - if you want a big heli for sports flying why not consider a gasser? Could be worth some thought.

I'm going out on a limb and mention the predator 90. Superb machine for general sport flying aerobatics, but you'd have to buy two to ensure you had spares. So on that note, I would suggest the R90 3D. Although it is was designed for 3D, it can be setup for sport flying. Durable and simple to configure.

Wow, somewhere in the "Other" category there is a very popular 90! My guess would be the 700 or Synergy N9. Or could it be the Raptor 90?? Would be very interesting to know

If I was buying I'd choose the Aurora, I've not flown one but I have flown an avant with the programmable head and it was very crisp, accurate and axial - easy to fly. I would also consider the synergy.

As with Ade's comment above, 90's cost a _lot_ more to keep in the air so make sure you can afford to crash and maintain it first!

What about the Extreme 90 that Richard was talking about yesterday, thats not been mentioned.

Have to say the Avant looked awsome in the air.

After doing some more fine tweeks to my aurora yesterday i can safetly say it is the best heli i have ever flown, more acurate than my 700, not that there is alot in it and just seems to track better.
To be fair to my 700 it is one of the batch 2 and the links are a bit worn now so there is some slop in the system that could be sorted with new links so that does not help and i still love it to be but does not fill as locked in as my aurora does.

Im looking at a raptor 90 or t-rex 700 for a gasser project.

You can get cnc metal main gears for the 700 if stripping them is an issue.

I think i will go for the raptor as it has a more solid frame design and will be better for the 23cc lump.
