  • My heli is my nightmare

The story about my heli is probably very common, but I decided to write about it so other peaple could avoid a situation like mine.

I bought the basic E-sky King2 (I thought it would be a good heli to learn how to fly) from Sussex Model Centre (not recommended by me). It supposed to be RTF heli, but came not set at all! First thought I'v got was just to return it. But the heli price was around £110 and £10 of the postage (so over £20 (near 20% heli price) lost if I returned), so there was no point. I decided to set it with someones help. The set up was not so easy as the tail (as I found out is a common situation for King2) was turning around with rate gyro. So I bought HH gyro (£30). The heli still was turning because of a low authority of the tail, so I bought 43t pulley (£15). After 5th fly the ESC broke, new one costs around £7, so probably better to buy an ESC with a brushless motor (£20-30) as brushes goes off quick. When you buy brushless motor you must also buy a new battery 1500mA (£20) as 1000mA lasts too short time (anyway the broken ESC damaged an old battery). And possibly soon I would need to buy a new radio (or forget about flying) as the stock one is not compatibile with my HH gyro. Bad situations made me lost a bit of will to further flying, but from another side, better it happend at the beginig as less money wasted (basic King2).

    Summary:

    110(heli) + 20(all postages) + 30(HH gyro) + 15(pulley) + 25 b.motor + 20(battery)= £220

For £160 you can buy King3 or £170 Belt CP2 (hope these are much better) with all the upgrades and few more. It is right to say: the learning costs a fortune.

So the advice for all (expecially begginers) if you buy anything, make you sure it is right and do not make mistakes i have done (but learnt something)!

    Regards

I had a king 2, and the tail was spinning, then i just sold it as i couldnt find the problem! Lots of people recomend phoenix simulator, and blade 400, as it comes with a dx6i.
Sorry to hear all that money spent

My advice is to stick with it........

Wether its the Honeybee or the Knight 3D ................its the pain called a learning curve ..........

They Don't go straight up ...............they certainly go straight down...

Stick with your choice .......don't throw your pennies away and upgrade when you can fly....

        HAPPY DAYS !

        Just my opinion

I done the same sort of thing. Bought a Blade 400, put a 401 gyro on it, then put a 9257 on oit, then Hi-tec 65mg on the cyclics, then bought a DX7.

I now have the Blade 400 RTF next to me, and have moved all the gear onto a 450 se v2

I have to say, athough i have spend alot on my king (prob could have bought a trex500) and there is not much original left, I love flying it, and it can really shift if you want it to as well as being very agile imo. I have not flown a trex but in some ways i like the king better than my raptor.

I will post some pics up once i have finished re-building it (did not quite make it out of a loop and hit the ground nose first).

The only down side to the king is that it does not fly well in wind.

I know these problems can be a pain, but it does teach you to set the heli up and work out how to fix/upgrade things, which by your first post is what you have found. You have probably learnt more than you think from this little heli

              your story is absolutely typical - welcome to the club;
I know one person who spent € 1500 on El Cheapo helis, then threw it all away and bought a "real" heli.
You probably haven't realized yet that the HBK is incredibly difficult to only keep in the air. The problem is, all the sim training doesn't really help if your heli doesn't act like one in the sim.
And, curiously, some people get really angry when you tell them there is no "free lunch". I've given up doing so. Everybody deserves a chance to learn his lesson in the hardest possible way

Did you bring it to Midland heli club to see if it can be made to fly better?

If it was you then it looked like a real handfull even after Jay had got the tail working a bit better.
Did you also change the blades?
If you didnt I have plenty of wood blades that will be much better than the bendy plastic ones you had fitted that you can have for free

I had similar problems with my heli when I first got it with the tail and gyro. Once I spent the money on a propper gyro it was much easyer to fly.

If you dial the gyro in right then it flys good.
I left the hobby 3 years ago and discovered Women.

                  I wish I never left.

Probably my next step will require buing better TX (DX7 or DX7se) + RX(A7000??) + tail servo(which one could be the best?) and in the future (1y or 2y) on my wish list is T-Rex500(or something similar - I am opened for your proposal), so I would like to all the above bits was compatibile with the next heli ;-)

I have a Honeybee King 3 which seems to be fine at the moment but have gone through the whole purchase of heli's that are meant to be rtf and simply aren't and they haven't all been cheap, I won't name any names and embarrass the shops who are currently stocking these models but suffice to say they are all in this country and all of them are run by supposed heli enthusiasts, at the end of the day it shouldn't matter how much something costs, it should do what it says it can do and if it doesn't it should go straight back, I wouldn't buy a relatively inexpensive car and expect to have to realign the wheels to make the fkr go in a straight line!!!, or go at all so why should Esky be any different?

I totally empathise with Rad on this one and Esky are NOT the only company out there that make inconsistent models, believe me.

I also have a King 2 Carbon edition. Which at the time cost well over £200 a year or so ago. Its been a dog to fly but recently since actually learning to fly on my Blade 400 decided to try and get the king flying. Added a HH gyro from my Blade and new tail servo. Did the drilling mod on the tail to allow more travel and to stop binding on the slider, and added the 43 tooth pully, and RX to use with my DX6i. Now it will fly but still not "great" but well enough for a little fun. If i changed the other servos i think it would be a lot better just dont wanna spend anymore money on it. If you can be bothered it is possible to get it flying nicely, but as you have already said its not really a RTF machine.
