  • As I get older I consider that visibility of the helicopter is becoming more important. I am starting to add vinyl. It was reasonable weather here for a change but we had grandchildren visiting!

    • Yeah, I have a few helis with very good visibility, and generally the key thing is contrast between the base colour and the windscreen. With the Steam 700 the canopy has a high-viz orange on the lower bit and a light yellow windscreen. I added some black vinyl to the back side so that it doesn't looks the same coming or going.

With the Synergy speed canopy, it would probably be more visible with a black windscreen. It looks lovely but at a distance there's not much contrast.

      • A sudden, increasingly rare sunny day! It was time for the HD750 to get a little fresh air.

        • Does the HD 750 fly well? I made the most of the weather too and had 6 good flights with the Tron. It really is a very good helicopter, the best I have ever flown. I am still a little bit nervous of it, being so new but I am getting used to it.

          • Glad the Tron is working for you :-) Yeah the HD flies very well indeed. In retrospect I probably shouldn't have bought it because now spares are very rare and I feel I have to be extra cautious with it. The tail slider has a bit more slop than I'd like, so I'll look into that later. Not sure if I should keep flying it or put it in a big display case :-o

            • Maidened the 580 Raw today, it rocks.

EDIT: Took it out again Sunday morning, this time on Vbar, however I didn't like it as much so, back in went the Brain/FrSKY setup in time for yet another session late afternoon - felt like it had 3 maidens lol.

Raw Jr might be becoming a favourite..

Although I did convert my Outrage from FBL to flybar, briefly lol.

                  • Got 6 more flights on the new Raw before rain forced an early pack up.

Still had some flying left in me though so I went home & flew a micro around the garden from the shelter of my garage.

                    • Hmm, I am thinking about a micro. Something large enough to see but small enough to survive most crashes into long grass. Any recommendations?

                      • Well the go-to micros seem to be OMP's M1 & M2 and Goosky's S1 & S2 and they're much of a muchness really. I'm no micro expert but having had OMP M1 & a Goosky S1 I would say both are almost indestructible in long grass (due to their low mass) but quite small so orientation can be a challenge. Overall I'd say the OMP is a bit better & easier to get parts for.

I've got the M2 now but it's not hit the deck yet so I don't know about crashing but it's much easier to see & flies beautifully.

                        Other opinions are available.

Gate88 may have an mcpx he wants to sell??

                          • Thanks Dave. The eyesight isn't quite so sharp as it used to be, despite two cataract ops. I know someone who has an M2 so I will have a look at it.

I used to have a blade 130x some years ago. It was awful. It crashed about every 10 minutes and was very fiddly to rebuild so I gave it away eventually, to Wavey Davey as it happens. We haven't seen much of him or Gate88 for a few years now!

                              • I'm not one of the OGs unfortunately, but I have been flying. Last week was pretty good, but this one has been a bit colder.
The clocks are changing soon, so no more flying after work in a few weeks.
