Our club lost its flying field to HS2 and the new field they found was not really suitable as the West Coast main line was only 30 yards behing the flight line, and trains going past at 100mph+ caused all sorts of wierd turbulance, so my helicopter fllet have not turned a blade for 18 months. I did try to get the Mini Titan in the air in the back garden a couple of months ago, but all of my 3S 2200mAh batteries had died. Then I found out HK did not ship to the UK anymore and most suppliers wee out of stock or charging ludicrous amounts for batteries, so they are await a change in circumstances, and a better positioned club. I did join a local fixed wing club, but the field is open to the general public and dog walking and ramblers regularly wander across the strip, so not really a suitable place to be flying choppers. Really missing my helicopters as try as I might flying fixed wingers for ten minutes or more just does not give the same rush as five minutes fighting to keep a helicopter airborne.

All this talk of clubs is making me reminisce about my old flying field. It started with just me every day during or after work, sometimes both(I should have been better than most with the amount of stick time I got lol) Then I got Gav to come along (who kindly brought a petrol mower along to actually cut the flight box, walk way and the flight line area) He just cut the well trodden area I had created. Then 3djim would fly his planks there. Then Discoferret joined me with his velocity 50. Then Mattie Lodge with his Logo Extreme.
I Eventually had the Southampton funfly there which was great fun. But after that Gav invited a guy who had a complete disregard for safety and flew his Trex600e behind the flight line, over the road and over the residents houses. This was mentioned to me by a resident which really pi553d me off and I apologized and they said they are perfectly happy with me flying there.
Then Jimmyhorns started up south hants Heli club of which I was not a member and didn't fly at any of there meetings as I felt it was starting to take the pi55 and the residents were once again getting angry. I however had begun flying at a new more local field without any residents nearby except an airport. Before the quad monkeys put a stop to that with their idiotic antics. I even had police enjoy watching me fly at that field. Then they had to find a new field as the residents had had enough (and I don't blame them). Then I went fbl and passion began to dwindle.
Sorry I'm babbling a load of tosh

I remember one day I got together with Jimmyhorns, and Don Guinan, someone else I don't remember :-o (sorry about that) and Laurence Gough. And I don't remember the field, but I was living in London at the time and went everywhere by train. Helis present were the original version T Rex 600e, my T Rex 500, someone else with a T Rex 500 DFC, a Century Hawk and Laurence's Raptor G4. This was maybe 2011 ish, at a guess.
Travel was always an obstacle for flyins. I think the farthest I went was the RCHA thing in Lincoln one year and Charmouth.Last edited by trillian; 26-07-2022, 07:53 PM.Kasama, Minicopter, Henseleit, JR, Shape, Beam

As I remember, Trillian, you came to a fly in at MK, probably 7 or 8 years ago. Did Waveydavey pick you up from the station, Northampton or Milton Keynes? Must have been an epic journey.Tron 7.0 advance Vbar evo V Control

Yeah, I went to MK twice. One year I didn't fly and someone I knew was driving up and I rode along. Then one year I brought my Robbe Futura. I don't remember how I got there from the station (yeah, that's how wild it was! - orrrrrr, my memory is shite ). I met Waveydavey though, and someone took a lot of pics. Someone arrived in a full size Jet Ranger with their Raptor in the back seat, which I thought was the coolest thing ever!Kasama, Minicopter, Henseleit, JR, Shape, Beam

I remember hearing the same thing, that he had a scale model of the Jet Ranger. It's almost certainly the same person. I just remember walking up to it and seeing a Raptor through the window.Originally posted by p4ddy View PostI'm sure that was in MHW?? Fixed wing flying today. first flights with my Maxthrust Ruckus. It was a bit windy but I found that helpful for landings. ( i would upload a pic but it says it exceeds the limits and I cannot be arsed to re-size it)Kasama, Minicopter, Henseleit, JR, Shape, Beam

Interesting, never heard of that before :-o (it's not a terribly exciting pic)
The Ruckus seems like a good choice so far as a starter plane. The wheel bolts were made of butter so I have changed those out for more sturdy ones (yes, they were actually butter - I had them on toast just this morning). And my 3s packs are tired now, so I have ordered some new packs.
