Why would I want to buy a gyro knowing in advance that I'd have to extend all the connections with the mess that implies for the wiring to say nothing of the additional points of failure you are adding.
    Hi Mark

I know what you mean about introducing a possible "weak point" in the link. I think the size of the wire is only a problem on a the very small helis. An extension produced by Spartan was only a suggestion so folks could just consider or debate it.

Debate is always a good thing.

Now if they could come up with a secure connection method and a fully detachable lead that comes in a variety of lengths then we'd all be happy

          Adrian,

I too had a problem on the 700. It is the only heli I flew with a Spartan this weekend.

On huge pitch climbs the tail was drifting and during tic tocs the tail felt slippy.

I had at first thought that it was a change in tail blades that I had recently made but now you say this i'm not too sure.

I did add a couple of clicks of gain (im about 36-37% spartan gain now) I only flew once more after that though and the tail still felt odd

            Thanks Tom,
I have decided to change the problem helis to the Spartan default settings and will take the laptop and lead with me to the field next time to see if I can dial it out.
Wont be for a little while yet though as I wont be able to fly for the next week or so.
I will post on here with my results.
I have been experiencing the same sort of symptoms that your describing.
Had to ground them for the rest of the day.

That's really wierd as my 700 seems better than ever with the upgrade. I actually knocked the gain down a couple of %.

I'm going to swap out the tails back to the Radix and make sure its not that first, but I will be taking my laptop with me too

I've not upgraded my spartans as yet but when I do I will report back how it flies on the T700. I'm currently using Bert K's setting file for the 700.

Regarding the wires, I think CSM have this spot on by having sockets on the gyro itself so you can use any length lead you require. Of course this does mean that the box is slightly bigger but for the convenience of being able to match the length of wires to your heli I think it's worth it.

I updated the firmware on mine on Friday and finally got to give it a good thrashing yesterday. Apart from changing my BLS261 to an Align DS620 the upgrade went smoothly, I just restored the data from the original setup. The endpoints were slightly different but in flight it's a definite improvement, piro speed is butter smooth and it does hold better, although it was very good anyway, I tried the knifedge drop from 200ft test and it didn't move a millimetre.

Another thought I had is to have a short (~10cm), flexible cable from the gyro to a secure connector.

This connects to a wiring harness of the customer's choice. Either one of several varieties of Spartan harness, or a customer-made one.

Any long runs or high current paths would be in the harness (so the connector & gyro cable wouldn't be lumbered with accomodating this.)

This doesn't make the gyro case any bigger; the gyro cable can be optimised to be manageable and not transmit vibration; and the harness connector can be securely attached to the heli frame - the harness effectively becoming part of the heli.

Just an update to say that I reset the problem gyros back to factory default and they now perform spot on.
As has already been said, better than before.
Great work Angelos and the guys at Spartan-Rc.

all mine are great with the slight exception of my 500 where every now and again in a fast piro flip it seems to whip very quickly. gonna keep an eye on that one...

                                > My 9256 on the 700 loaded as a BLS 251 amd the BLS 251 on the Aurora loaded as an Align DS410

This is now solved. The problem was related to how the data are loaded from the SSF file. A new version of the configuration software is available to download. The gyro firmware is not affected.
