  • Am I odd?

Now don't all answer at once!

Messing around in Phoenix tonight and it seems I'm getting to grips with nose-in before side-on hover.

    Am I abnormal?

Yes, Martin, but we still love you.

From what I've seen on here, everyone has a different learning experience, and what some people find almost impossible other find so easy - and vice versa.

In a way I'd say no.

Nose in is a complete reverse of tail in, but side on requires thinking 90 deg on. So I can imagine nose-in being easier.

I still find nose-in difficult, but side-on (right side to me) I find the hardest.

Anyone who flies helis is odd mind!!

I find nose in inverted easier than nose in right way up so it's different for everyone, or perhaps us Martins are just 'speshial' :P

I find nose in easyer as i use the stick to prop up the blades method...cant use that side on, so i find side on harder.

But i realy need to get more sim time on both..... nice day today had a little hover in the garden... windy yes but makes it more fun trying to hold it steady.

For me tail in, nose in and pointing left are fine, pointing right is by far the hardest.

Inverted I've only done pointing left in real life. I can do all orientations on the sim, but I've noticed that nose in I can get more of a feeling of "flying a helicopter, upside down", whereas the other orientations are more a feeling of "flying an upside down helicopter", if you see what I mean.

Don't think so; don't mind Murray Mints, though!

This is my experience; others may well differ! :

When you first start flying nose in, you start by learning a completely different set of control responses for nose in (e.g. prop up the falling edge); if you're not careful, when you turn the helicopter back tail in, you can end up trying to fly the helicopter using those same nose-in control responses. You are "flying a nose-in helicopter". With practise you learn to fly the helicopter itself, rather than changing your mental responses as the orientation changes; at that point you are "flying a helicopter (that just happens to be) nose-in".

With inverted I'm still very much at the stage of having a separate set of control responses for inverted, except sometimes nose-in, I can get the feeling that I am flying the helicopter, and it just happens to be upside down.

                        Clear as mud, I'm sure

I've always thought of you as a fellow nutter, this is a huge complement BTW.

I guess everyone has a talent for picking up something quicker then others, your gifted with the "nose in" side of flying, which is no bad thing.

I can do slow 360's and as the nose comes around to the right I continue forward cyclic while rudder/ banking to make a full turn and go left.

Left & Right Nose side on pointing for me now is second nature, the right took more practice, but feels completely natural now.

Nose in is getting there, but by far the more scarier position to master, as did I thought the right nose side on hovering at one point, if I may after mastering the right side nose positioning hover my flying took on leaps and bounds, as then I could after more practice, (Sim & real flight) basically go anywhere without being tail in and just sweeping left and right, which months back was frustrating me greatly, as I desperately wanted more from my Helicopter flying.

Just put your heart and soul into your flying and it'll all work out nicely, of course having a bird doing it for real is another thing, but I'm finding myself at this point doing far more real flying and progressing forward then I do on Phoenix.

Though I still use Phoenix heavily, and will continue to do so when the weathers against you, on the Sim I have the weather conditions set to "bleeding awful," so it's a real fight to fly on the PC, this method I've practiced for sometime with the theory being when I'm out for real it'll feel much easier, not in a big headed way heaven forbid, but I've always had the opinion make it tough in cyber space, and fly safer in the real.

Keep it up my friend, you'll soon be nose in and eating a Kebab at the same time with no prob's.

Are! So you know of Histon/Impington then mate, my home ground as a child & Teenager.

We visited Cambridge a few weeks back, and where there raised the petty Cury* area and Lion Yard, it's no longer the Cambridge I knew and loved, I'd go so far too say it felt quite alien, the changes in the last five years has been amazing.
