  • Hovering in your living room

Being a "new kid" in these parts that has yet to fly his T-rex 500, I have read a number of threads of late in which individuals have hovered or powered up to "light on the skids" inside their living room.

    Is it just me, or is this practice downright dangerous to ones;

    - health
    - wealth
    - property
    - all of the above?

I have flown my mCX in the house a lot but even find my CX2 to be a handful indoors.

How about you guys? Is this practice to be condoned or condemned?

I haven't spooled up the 450 in the house and after the tree jumped out in front of me I dont even try in the garden.

I have started the 600 in the garden but I got shouted at...

Cheers Mart... I guess I'm mister 'light on the skids', if you know what I mean...

Once I've finished my 2nd rotor head rebuild this week (why doesn't the B400 'hardware' pack have o-rings and shims?!!! ) I'm definitely NOT going to be spinning up indoors again!!!

My respect for these things has increased significantly after papping myself at the weekend!

I agree that the CX2/3 is a handful indoors and needs a sports hall to really have fun with it!
        F@*k, that sounded bad...

Maybe I'm assuming the possible damage/injury potential is greater than it really is. If one was hit buy, say, a Blade 400 at max head speed, how much would that hurt/destroy whatever it hit?

Not knowing the max head speed of a blade 400, if I were to assume the rotor span at around 2800 rpm, I've calculated the blade tip speed to be just under 235 miles per hour. That'd sting wouldn't it?

I'm light on my feet but that's a whole other story.
Please don't take this thread wrong. I'm just trying to understand what damage such a heli could do, were it to let loose.

Yeah, but compared to what it will do in plenty of space it's very limited. Have you flown one on Phoenix in the sports hall? It's a right laugh!

Took my CX3 outside this weekend with the Seahawk body on it - tiny breeze... fell out of the sky (rubbish!)... I really, really want to fly it in a decent sized hall!

Mine is half dead at the moment It needs quite abit of work, and i think its about £30 to fix. I have put it to one side at the moment as i am trying to get my HBK2 flying and may need better radio gear for my nitro soon

                      YES!

personnally unless you have a living room the size of a sports stadium I wouldnt even spool up a b400, if soemthing goes wrong then your going to have trouble.

There have been vids showing people spooling up 90's in their living rooms pure madness.

even the little contras can do damage. if things so wrong
                      All the best

                          mCX only for me.

I've spooled up the 500 in my spare room just to check the tracking but that was not even 50% throttle and I was the only one in the room. Certainly wouldn't consider anything more that that. too many things to hit.

It's appreciated because I think the safety aspects of flying (like most things) often get overlooked until it's too late. It's what my ex-Wife used to call 'a 999 moment'... when you can just imagine the voiceover of the presenter describing the chain of events that led up to the tragic incident...

It's like the opening scene to Casualty when you know exactly what's gonna happen...

A guy in Houston was killed by an RC helicopter that got out of control and almost completely decapitated him!

How many of you guys make sure that the throttle hold is ON before going near the copter? That's a lesson I learnt pretty quickly!!! You're only gonna catch the throttle stick once!!!!

                              F@*k, that sounded bad...
