Once you have this information, you will need to access your router. This is usually accomplished by using Internet Explorer and typing 192.168.0.1 into the address bar.
It might usually be 192.168.0.1, but rather than guessing the router address, a better plan is to take a closer look at the results of the "ipconfig -all" command. You will find the address of your router listed on the "Default Gateway" line.
If you're happy that you've changed the Router settings to route the appropriate ports to the correct local IP address, then it could be a software firewall on your PC that is blocking Phoenix.
The most common of these is the "Windows Firewall" (which is built in to XP and Vista), although many of the anti-virus and "internet security" products (Norton/Mcaffee etc) have similar features and take over this function from windows.
Whatever you're using, try turning it off completely to start with.
Assuming you're using the standard Windows Firewall, on XP, you can do this as follows: Start/Control Panel/Windows Firewall - then choose the "OFF" option". If you find that this was the problem, you can turn the Firewall back ON, but add the 6 ports (9000-9005) as "exceptions".
If that doesn't fix it, and you suspect that the router may still be blocking the traffic despite your best efforts, see if your router firewall supports "DMZ". If so, enable DMZ and set its parameter to your local IP address. DMZ (this acronym comes from "DeMilitarised Zone"), should then bypass all the router firewall settings and just pass everything to your PC without interference.
If Phoenix starts to work with DMZ on, you will know that the problem lies in the router firewall. You can then turn DMZ back off, and work on battering the router firewall settings into submission!
All this is fine but some still have the problem that you can get into sessions but not host. My setup will not host even when set to DMZ. I have no firewall on my PC at all it is turned off. Even with the 3 routers I own set to DMZ it still will not host...EVER
