  • Must read 'Gutted'.

I was looking forward to an afternoon of flying at the field when just into flying my 500 all of a sudden Husky dog off lead came running over trying to jump up to the heli, trying not to panic shouted to the owner get ya dog but did not give a toss, by now lypo was draining & had no choice but to land it as far away from the dog as poss but the dog just ran straight into the blades crying out with pain I tried to comfort the dog whilst waiting for the owner who was just casually walking over by the time he got to the dog he didn’t even check if his dog was ok & theirs me feeling gutted. As luck has it he was I think only badly bruised with a very bad limp. This field is for flying as it’s always been for many years but now after what’s happen I packed up & left feeling bad, now I can’t bring myself to want to fly again as all I can here is the dog crying out, just thinking about it seeing the dog & the crying noises makes me feel gutted.

      Sorry to hear that Jim.
But please don't feel bad as the responsibility lies with the owner.
Why people are this stupid is beyond me.
Oh look theres someone flying a potentially dangerous heli. I'll let my overly friendly dog leap all over the pilot and even chase the thing down!
Put it on a lead Moron!
Get back out and put it behind you. I doubt you will ever see or hear from them again.

Thats not what you expect when you go flying, It sounds as though the poor dog not only has a limp, some pain but an arse for an owner. you would have thought that the owner would have had a little more sense. I know many dog owners and most and I do say most love a treasure their pets. I can understand why you feel bad, but look on the bright side, it walked away and it could have been a whole lot worse than that.
Dont blame your self, there is only so much you can do in this type of situaton

Ah mate, don't let it put you off, is the stupid owners fault for being so stupid, some people have no sence what so ever.
I am a dog owner and would not even concider talking my dogs to where someone is flying, dogs are curious and to them probably looks like something they should catch.
I have had a similar thing happen to me but luckaly the dog lost interest and ran back to it's owner, just in time before my lipo went flat

all I can here is the dog crying out
Well we had a reverse sceniaro up here. A dogwalker allowed his Spaniel to jump up on my mates chest knocking the TX out of his hands. Said Trex 500 went twump. It was the pilot doing the crying.

I had a similiar experience..what I did was fly the 500 as far away as possible and said Mut followed it.. Then climbed really high quickly till its left confused, bringing it back very high at warp speed. Dogs vision is apparently maxed out at 100m noise and smell being there strongpoints.

Oh! and watch the Mut doesn't pi$$ on your leg when your staring up in the sky looking like a lampost..

                        Damn, thats terrible.

Completely the fault of the dog owner. He probably thought it would be funny to see his dog eat your heli when it landed. It might be that the owner didn appraciate the size of your heli or the damage it could potentially do.

Dogs are very tough and It was probably shocked rather than hurt, im sure the dog will be fine.

Dont feel bad, Tourerjim - you did what you could. While the owner could not give a toss - you did and did the best you could in the situation with regards to the dogs welfare. The dogs bruises will heal dont worry. Give it a few flights and you'll be back into it again!
                            cheers
