You are all assuming the person running the website has access to all our details. Would you want that anyway?

From what I can see the BMFA website generates no real income and implementing a link, manual or automated, between the BMFAs database of our details and the website isn't going to be realistic surely?

richie, the admin of the bmfa will have access to the full list of insured parties i would assume. on that same page would be name, address etc. the entire registration system is manual now so be very easy to check them. i make databases for a living doing this sort of thing (although this is hardly taxing) and it's very easy to implement and i would bet they already have it.

not a case of would we want that really mate, they (BMFA) already have it anyway.

      cheers

If they do store all our information on an access or SQL database it would be easish to implement something, but that does assume what you and I DON'T actually know - Does the admin have easy access?

But lets just think about this for a minute, you are saying it's a manual database right? If that's the case then for every registration it will require someones time to manually cross reference the manual database so they can open an account to advertise. And thats just for the advertisers! Time for someone to do this is cost and that may just not be available.

All I'm saying for the slight annoyance of you not being the first in the queue and having to register with a UK ISP email account then I really don't see whats so terrible? Anyway you can always use this forum to sell stuff.

richie, it's a database, it is this easy-

click search, paste in the BMFA number. job done, your either in our your out based on what it finds. this can also be automated but it says it's manual process already on bmfa site so lets roll with that. if it's already being done then whats the problem?

your perfectly correct in that i can setup an ISP one but so can scammers. i shouldn't have to is the point. they are trying to combat scammers and this is not how to do it is what i'm saying.....all imo ofcourse.

          cheers

i doubt it mate...in mean time people will make use of other ways to sell stuff i guess which means probably via here or more likely for most (plane guys) ebay.

              cheers

anyways, if this thread is anything to go by a lot of people have been kicked and are not going back.

                cheers
Sorry mate honest i do get ur point and i understand 100% just didnt know the other info.

If you don't like what the BMFA do or how they do it then don't join. The 2009 membership fees are due right now, so make your choice.

If you do decide to stay with them, then great. As a member, you have right to call them and discuss your concerns.

If you don't decide to take advantage of their services, then go and get your insurance somewhere else, and let's see if it will be accepted at regional and national fly-ins and shows.

Sadly would not apply for public or BMFA Flyins etc.

I might be wrong here, but there won't be any legal reason as to why not. Provided the level of cover matches or exceedes the current BMFA setup. It wholly depends on the stipluations/conditions by the insurance underwriter. If they want a level of competency then you would have to also then setup a certification process akin to the BMFA A & B cert. if not better.

Your then starting to get into the realms of making a break away from the BMFA completely - now that's a big can of worm's!!!

whilst it does seem that the bmfa can potentially be pretty useless at some stuff what you dont see is the work they do with people like the CAA and telecoms people. If it wasnt for the BMFA, 35mhz would never have been available to us, they also negociated an extra 10freqs and most recently the power limit increase for 2.4gigs from 10mw to 100mw without which 2.4gig would never have been possible for us.

this work alone is worth 26ukp a year which is bugger all really.

so before you go throwing your toys out the pram over the classifieds have a dig around the bmfa website theres plenty of info as to the work they do.

I Agree Ade .. If it was not for the BMFA then we would not have alot of the things that we take for granted in the aeromodelling world ...People only see what is going on in public and dont see what goes on behind the scenes ... Me personally I think the £28 is well worth it for the insurance alone
