Should have worded my post better Stuart, It was late.

Take your membership away from the BMFA and don't subscribe to them your yearly functions to BMFA affiliated events would be reduced to none.

As you state if anyone has the balls to challenge them and setup another organization then that's another story.

      Hi,

I had my account deleted over Christmas period which miffed me a bit as I wanted to sell something. However, I have now registered with a Sky email account and am now back up and running. I have used this site and the BMFA for years and although they do some strange things at times on the whole I also think its a worth while £28 of my money well spent
      Cheers Matt

I am very grateful for the work that the BMFA does for us and really do think the yearly fees are very little for the work they do.

Regarding the website - With the users having 'paid for' email accounts there is a trail to follow since they are unable to enter false details when paying for their email addresses. This will help to reduce and / or track the scammers down when things go bad - so from a security perspective - better.

I don't own a 'paid for' email address and will not be purchasing one, but that's my choice. We all know that scammers are a problem for the BMFA and I believe they've taken a step in the right direction to at least create a trail for the authorities to follow in the event of things going wrong. Purchasing an email address is a small price to pay for the value that the FREE BMFA classifieds provide.

There are other ways of managing this but there are probably reasons why they've decided to go that route...

        Just my opinion...

Yes, but being uninformed is hardly an excuse for poor decision making

So time ago I posted this information on another thread, but I'll repeat it here, because it's applicable, and l like re-typing repeat info !

The BMFA classified site is run by a 3rd party, and it appears that the BMFA have little or no input on how it's run (or, more likely, don't give a rats .....)

Maybe this explains why you're all now having issues. . . . . . ., and also why the site has been so infected with spammers !

It also explains why they, the 3rd party, don't want to limit it to BMFA members only. . . . . . . .oh, and do you want your BMFA membership number stored by some unrelated, and unknow, 3rd party ?

It's arguable that the BMFA do good work, but having someone else running their classified web site is a big mistake.

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

I'd say 99% of people have access to an ISP account so whats wrong with using one I have no idea...

Although they did delete a tiscali account a friend of mine was using so.....

actually if you have sky/virgin/tiscali etc etc they allow up to 10 email addresses for most people anyway as theres often more than one person in a house.

if the AD site is run by a 3rd party I'd of fired them by now

If it's run by a 3rd party, then they don't do it for free.

I'm sure the level of service that the 3rd party provides reflects the BMFA's budget.

disc, your allowed 14 email address's with virgin media/ntl/blueyonder fyi.

i already answered why i don't want to

i'm not questioning the value for money our insurance offers. this might look like a free service but our subs pay whoever runs this obviously. nothing is "free" in this world.

anyways, the fact of the matter is if people want to make use of it then need to get another mail address. time will tell if it will help with scammers........i'd have a bet on that now as making another email address is chicken feed for these clowns.

                  cheers

Are people seriously talking about cancelling their subs and not being insured because the classified section of the BMFA website isn't working properly?

I've never used it. I suggest BMFA close it, stop paying a third party to support it and reduce my subs please.

                      Problem solved.

That's all well and good, but "the young" need to get off their backsides and do it... which they aren't.

Reduce subs by how much exactly? 27p?

I think this is getting ridiculous personally. The classified adds section works fine.

Treat it like an online free adds paper and nothing else.

This could also apply for the " for sale " threads on here ... Just because this site links to it doe not mean they are held accountable for the usage it gets .. Luckily we know who and what to buy on here as you get to know the other members ....BMFA classifieds is just an addon to the BMFA site and its there as an alternative to ebay and the likes as it lets like minded people look to buy and sell stuff .. Just cos they have gone about trying to make it more secure for people to use and its put a few peoples noses out in the process of doing so ... If you have a problem with the BMFA , dont bitch about it do something about it and join the Governing body ...As for lowering the subs ... They kept the price the same this year and £28 aint alot of money to know we have this body looking after the interests of modellers ..

Don't knock it, I could really do with that 27p right now.

This thread has been rediculous from the start, and I replied because I could.

I don't think that will ever change, the young don't have the time to sit around getting bogged down in policies and paperwork but the old wannabe politicians thrive on it, as much as we joke about the old pee stained gimmers running the show I'm thankfull for the job they do with our insurance and for providing me with a monthly supply of epoxy mixing sheets
