  • BMFA site

sorry to post this here peeps but i can't get onto bmfa site to do it.

i have been a member of BMFA site for a long long time with the same email address with zero problems. i tried to login just before christmas and i got an unknown account error. i thought it was strange so i applied for another one on 22nd dec. i have also emailed admin and got no reply. i have went to login again to check the status of request and again it says no record of my email address. i now get a popup i have not seen before-

Your email address and/or IP is banned from our site.

We only accept registration with a UK ISP email address. If you have entered an email address from a free and/or anonymous service provider such as hotmail, yahoo, gmail or similar, please change it now or this registration will be invalid.

i use a google account exclusively for my own convenience and now i can't even join your stupid site because i choose to have this mail provider. i understand you are trying to curb scams etc but this is not the correct way to go about it. you should only allow bmfa/saa members to join and that way you have atleast access to their name, address etc should the police want it.

anyways, my last words on the matter- stick your site up your a$$

    cheers

Urrrgh, I think someone at BMFA made a boo boo.

Try ringing them up? and explain that you have been a member for quite sometime

I must admit it took me 6 months from applying for my membership to the site to actually receiving confirmation and allowing me to their site.

Total shambles IMO and can only be described as getting as near farcical as eBay towards its members.

They have barred all google/gmail, yahoo, hotmail accounts etc.

I have the same problem. Used my gmail account, as my usual isp provided email account gets so much spam. I changed my email on bmfa to my gmail, and I'm no longer an account holder.

        Bit of a bummer really...

No, I think any accounts that are from things like Hotmail, Yahoo have been suspended.

This was posted a week or so ago

Ads Admin are pleased to announce that we can re-open the site ahead of schedule.

The majority of accounts with anonymous email addresses have now been removed, although the system will continue to delete accounts of users who have significantly altered their registration details and/or are using email accounts that prevent them from being personally identified.

This may include overseas registrations, business addresses, some domain names, users with multiple accounts, accounts using 'bmfa' as part of the address, etc.

Our aim for 2009 is to make the Classified Ads site as safe as we possibly can for all responsible users/genuine aero-modellers, whilst sending a clear message to anyone else that misuse & abuse of the site, it's users and Classified Ads Admin, is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.

We would like to wish users of the Classified Ads Site a Happy & Prosperous New Year.

          The Classified Ads Team

          Hope this helps

i got the same thing mate... ive been a member with that email for years too. Dont think ill bother at all now. I never use my ISP email only hotmail or yahoo mail its just easier for me. Even if i did id never ever register an ISP email address with them for the simple fact of the countless spam/email junk and scams you get sent through them. Im guessing there thinking this will stop all the ripping off and scamming of people on there. Unfortunately it looks like there gonna loose half the legit guys doing it.

            Cheers

They should just ban any non members of the BMFA from advertising on the site (and possibly usage of the site at all) by requiring your BMFA membership number as part of your registration. A simple registration and approval process would make the whole system safe for sellers and buyers.

Make it a benefit of BMFA membership, they have tens of thousands of members as it is... that could grow (which would only be a good thing for everyone) if you have to be an authenticated member to use that facility.

No brainer if you ask me.

                        Cheers,

your missing the point i'm making here. i should dictate what i want to use, not them. i have a google android phone that auto syncs with my googlemail which is really handy. also i can get access to gmail from work but i can't get access to the any of the rest due to proxy in work. i don't want to setup a mail account just for the bmfa site. they have a scammer problem but this is not the way to cure it. these people will easily move to a different email address and re-scam. they should ask for the bmfa/saa number and thats good enough imo and use whatever email you like.

anyways, if this thread is anything to go by a lot of people have been kicked and are not going back.

                            cheers
