I have a Tornado 2200 3S pack I use on my Beam. I came to use it last Sunday and I thought I'd put a part discharged pack on as it had no headspeed and the ESC cut-off came in from the start. Sticking it on my Infinity 3 charger I soon found that one cell was at 1.2V, the others just under 4.2V. This pack has had 6 cycles and was pretty crap straight from the start, I won't be buying any more Tornado packs.

I'm using the Maxpoly 900 packs on my 250 and at the end of a 5 minute flight running a straight line 100% throttle curve they are barely warm plu they hold a pretty good headspeed. I've now got 2 Maxpoly 2100 3S and 2 900 3S packs and I'm very pleased with them, cycles are building up on the 2100 packs and they still perform very well and land warm.

Yes im sponsored by outrage, which is one of the reasons why im helping.

i think the best bet is to send them to me or blink, If you send them to me i will test them on the cellpro, then pass the info onto blink.

one thing to bear in mind is that one pack size is never representative of a range of packs. As an example the revo 3200 is pants, the 3300 is extremely good. Mike stopped selling the 3200 as a result of it's poor performance.

Similarly the Outrage 800 may be pants (don't know not tried one) however the Outrage 3000 6S kicks the hell out of the Revo 5S 4200 for out and out power......but you do get a shorter flight time. The main issue here being weight rather than chemistry differences. The Outrage 3000 being 425g whilst the Revo is closer to 590g. Even so the 5S 4200 is still a good pack and I still recommend it if you go the 5S route.

Never take the view that one pack represents a range (good or bad).

it depends what charger hes using, charging at >1c will lessen the life of any battery but if the balancer cant keep up cells will go over voltage which will kill a cell very quickly.

i know i keep banging on about the cellpro, i spent a lot of time looking at the various chargers on the market before making my choice. Not only is it the best at charging its also got the ability to tell you if a cell is dead or dieing, its a definitive answer that cannot be argued with.

Am I the only one that gets confused by the apparently conflicting views on battery charging ?

My Cellpro 10S (which I reckon a lot), goes *way* over 1C. With no obvious ill-effects or pack warming. I believe it's also fine to charge hot (from flight) packs on the 10S.

BMFA handbook seems to suggest that a charge rate no greater than discharge rate/10 is ok. (ie 2.5C on a pack rated at 25C continuous.)

I can see that charging at 1C is the definite safe option, but is it really going to hurt if I let my Cellpro !0S charge above this when it reckons it's safe to do so ?

            Er..?

im still reading up on this, but with the cellpro it should be ok.

key feature of the cellpro is the accuracy and power of the balancer and if balancer cant keep up it backs off the charging current.

so if you are going to charge at over 1c its definetly the least likely to cause damage.

The cellpro at times goes over 1C when it is set to charge auto 1C. It works out by pulsing the charge rate and measuring what the voltage change is, what it reckons is 1C. A good quality pack ends up getting a higher charge rate than a worn out of crap one. I use some really old and naff 3S lipos strapped to my starter - 3s2p and charging these on 1C auto thay barely get up to 1.5amps (though its a 3600 mah 3s2p), becuase they are crap packs. my revo packs (3s 2100 and 5s 4200) end up getting pretty close to the 1C true charge with the charger on auto.
I have a revo 2100 that is a year older than two others. ITs interesting to see that alrhough I can'y tell this pack from the other two flying the heli it does register a significantly higher internal resistance (the two newer ones are the same).

Well my 800 packs have gone back to source for either refund or replacement with the new type packs. I agree with Ashley it probably doesnt represent the whole range but these ones were definately pants.

Kong Power 850 on the way, report to follow.
