  • To Governor or not

Flew my Titan 50 Hyper last weekend after re installing a GV-1

The reason for this was I couldn’t get on with my Revlock 10 as mention in another thread here and since learnt I need to upgrade to the 20

Anyway after tuning I had head speeds of 1900 in idle up1 and 2050 in 2 (according to the GV-1)
It flew very well and I was pleased with the results, the engine was running well, plenty of power and staying cool, something I could never get with the Revlock 10

Thought I’d try it without Gov so set idle 1 thr curve to 85 flatline with 100 at the top and bottom, and 2 to 95 flat line. also with 100 either end

It ran and flew even better which surprised me more,
these settings seem to suite my stile of flying, mild 3D/sports

Yes there was a bit of over revving with fast descents but I can live with that,,

My point is, do us mere mortal flyers really need governors!! personally I think not,,

Decided not to buy a 20 going to spend the money on good fuel

Not sure what ya mean by a flat line 85% with 100 at the top and bottom.... that would be a V curve not a flatline lol Or am i reading that wrong?
Im with ya on this one though... us mere mortals dont necessarily need a governor just well setup curves. A hardened 3D'er im guessing will completely disagree. The Raptor Titan that i have (i class this as my training heli) doesnt use a governor. And to be honest it doesnt need one for the type of flying i do anyways. None of my helis do to be honest but i wouldnt like overspeeding on my 700 and 600 NSP engines lol (can live with it on my raptor as its a more general purpose machine). Not got any experience of the GV1 but i was never happy with my revlok 10 either. How would you currently describe your flying? I describe mine as aggressive sports flying with a small amount of inverted.
Id agree and say it depends what flying your doing.
    Cheers

aggressive sports flying with a small amount of inverted

I'm about the same, a few tic tocks and ff inverted, learning to hover close inverted,

re 100 either end, I like to have max power top/bottom stick, good for trying inverted climbouts,
Using +11 and -10 in Idle2 at the moment, seems to get the best out of my Titan.

use the 500 for "trying" manic flying, mind you, it can well out fly my skills as Jamiem proved to me when he had ago with it the other week,, amazing

                  1950 - 2050 on a Raptor.

and then it sometimes overspeeds !! that ain't MILD dude .

u could try using the gov at 1750 - 1800 then u can get the tail right.

if ur getting over 2000 and its not wagging its arse off then u can get some more gain out of that bad boy..

u mentioned fuel..... u will save with a lower head speed and u won't waste a gallon faffing with curves.

must have wasted 2 gallons trying to get the revlock 10 to run well,

                      as for the head speeds,
never used it that high before but the hyper seems to like it.
Most of the time I run at 1900 in ID1 anyway,

If your only concern is the over-speed, then use a limiter (i.e. RevMax) rather than a governor.
