  • Knight 50

Just bought a knight 50 and spent last night assembling it. As expected, completely different league to my nexus.

Instructions are minimal at the best. It looks like I've got it in one piece ok, just need to finish the radio and engine installation. Engine may have to wait a couple of weeks till I get paid again but heh ho.

Is there anything in particular I should pay attention too. The guys at skyline said to check the factory thread locking. My only concern is that the instructions look as though there should be a m3 nut placed inside the paddles, not only were there no m3 nuts , but the spindle does not seem to come into the paddles far enough anyway. Also how tight should the tail belt be??

Will be going back to skyline when it's all together, for a check over!

Which bits in particular need watching when I have got it up and running. what wears out??

Watch for wires of the 2 outer CCPM servos rubbing on the frames. Use a short length of fuel tube cut down one side to form a C cross section over the frame.

I didnt use the standard paddles they looked a bit of the heavy side for my flying style and I had a pair of V paddles floating around. I would have thought that any M3 nut would do the job.

if you push on the belt just behind the front pulley on ONE side it it shouldnt quite touch the other side of the belt. with "medium" force.

    hope this helps.

It's getting expensive this upgrading lark!!

New gyro, servo's and engine later, the new heli is ready to fly

After initial setup's it seemed a good idea to try the engine out.

Now I need a new starter, my cheapo starter bought in 1990 isn't man enough to turn the new 50 over and I've burnt it out ops:

Oh well, just a good excuse to spend more cash.

Phil, careful, if your old starter was man enough for a 30, it should have handled a 50, are you sure it wasn't hydrolocked ?

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

yeah turning over ok, just too slowly to fire.

It's even in the OS instructions that until the engine is run in it may need a HI torq type of starter. 8O

Needed new starter and lead acid anyway to be perfectly honest. I think I could probably flick start my old asp36, lovely little engine

That's your opinion Chappers. All I can say is my ASP has done a brilliant job. Got it from just engines with the quiet pipe and my old engine problems have gone away. The MDS that came with the Nexus, now that was rubbish!!!

Started the Knight for the first time today Looks like it could be great fun.
Just need to get it trimmed out, then I'm looking forward to some excelent flying. Back garden is a bit small really

well not just mine! maybe you got the one that works? or perhaps you have never owned a "proper" engine to use as a benchmark?

Maybe Chappers  one of them must work.

looking forward to getting to grips with the OS50 though. It's only the SX-H is that proper enough

Hate the weather, loads to do outside, and it's just miserable here

                          Quick Update

                          Quick update on the Knight.

Loads better than the Nexus, just like every one said it would be. Took it down to Ade Law to set up and do the initial flights. Bit weird to start with, but I learned loads about the way helis should be set up!, not the way I was doing it! Just starting to settle down to it now. Great club in DORSET DORSET DORSET ( must learn my UK geography) as well, ver relaxed and a great bunch of Guys.

Awesome display by Ade to cap it off, just to show what can be done with a Knight.

Thanks to all at the club and Ade for the help ad encouragment
