  • How long will fuel Keep for??

Hi, I'm new here and was thinking of resurrecting the interest in RC choppers.

Bought a Raptor 30 a few years ago, built it and ran it up strapped to the bench.

Unfortunately my interpretation of the instructions caused me to have the throttle linkage the wrong way round = 100% at start up.

This stripped the clutch liner before it ran out of fuel (I pulled the fuel line off).

I glued another liner in and took the clutch bell to work and lathed the liner down to the correct tolerance.

"Unfortunately" I ended up getting married and moving house then extending the house etc etc.

Everything has a higher priority than my hobby it seems.

Anyway the heli is in the loft and I've got 2 gallons of fuel in the garage.

    Will the fuel be ok?
What maintenance do you experts advise before firing her up again?

    Cheers Gaz

Me personally i wouldnt use the fuel if its a few years old mate. Best thing to do is check the whole heli over really. Check the head hasnt any play, clean it properly to stop crap getting in the carb. Me personally i would clean the carb using carb cleaner and also the engine internals. Check everythings aligned properly and at 90 degrees, to be honest ya wanna go over the whole heli as if you had just built it.
    Cheers

If the fuel has been unopened then you may be okay

Discard any part opened bottles if there has been any chance of condensation

            Thanks for the advise folks.

I have only opened one bottle so I'll dispose of it "responsibly" and give the other one a go.

Can anyone advise the engine that the V2 raptor 30 came out with originally. I've got the info at home but am stuck in the middle of the north sea at present on an oil platform.

Just so I can have a look for any "crucial" upgrades I may require.

            Cheers

Probably not worth the agro of using the old fuel. For the price of some fresh stuff - may aswell bin the old.

If the budget will allow, drop an OS engine in

The original engine is usually a TT39 - not as much oomph as an OS.
