    Hi All,
Been a member for a while and well my old heli a 32VR
(loved the heli) was very expensive when I crashed it .....
Tails with all the bits were like 20 pounds!

Now sold and all spares gone and I have:

Just got myself a Raptor 30v2 which I have put my CSM SL 560
gyro in it. Just got issues with the Tail setup as normal when I push
left on rudder should the tail blades go left or go right? Does my
    head in

I have also just got a Robbe Ornith full kitted out now all I have to
set it up as well (2nd hand I swaped it for my nitro truck).....

If I remmeber correctly, for left stick movement, the leading edge of the tail blade should move to its right, so left is right and right is left 8O 8O 8O
-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

    And a DX8 too

easy way to remember is think of the FORWARD going tailblade as a boat rudder!

        the stick controls the nose of the model, so left stick pushes the;

        NOSE to the LEFT

which in turn will move the tail to the right.

now match the tail rotors control to that movement.

its worthwhile getting an expert to have a look at the model, the SL560 isnt the easist of gyros to setup and can be a bit fiddly to get working really nicely.

          Hi
Gyro was set up fine for the 32VR and by all acounts appears
its settings ATV movements etc doesnt cause any grief.

Its going to be down to me getting the tail to behave before
I test it and run the engine in. Last thing I want is mad tail
spins on the ground! If I can hover it I will fly it after 3 tanks
          of fuel through the heli.

I had just started circuts with the 32VR.

I was fed up of the hovering and as I flew planes just said sod it
and powered my heli forward and up and did several circuts and
well I DID IT!!! landed okay everything.. 4 flights later a landing
wasnt so good my brain went into plane landing mode!

              Hi
Well IF I countiuned to hover about then thats all I would
              ever do.

As with all things when solo you have to be willing to go the next
step. I can Hover drift the heli about and put it roughly where I
              want it.

The next step was to fly.

I wasnt running, I was at the point where you go from
crawling to walking.... Or stay crawling forever?

Disc, the problem with flying a helicopter like a plane is that when you take your fingers off the controls of the average plane, it'll continue flying, do the same with a helicopter, and it'll crash, usually within a few seconds.

You also cannot land a heli like a plane, you have to hover to land properly (ok, ok, for the nit pickers, you can do sliding landing, but only if you do it perfectly)

So, although it's boring, you do have to learn how to hover, otherwise your future skill progression will suffer, but more importantly, so will your bank balance (and you think that a 20 repair is expensive 8O ).
                      Janek

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

                        Hi
just for a boom and the bits inside it yes 20 pounds is expensive
compared to say the raptor 6.99 a boom...

So I do think a 32vr boom plus the bits inside is expensive.

                        Main blades were fine.
Which is why the 32vr has been sold and now I have a raptor 30v2
and picked up a robbe Ornith (50 size).

Both have cheaper parts than the 32vr and both a lot simpler to
                        repair and fix.

But yes 20 pounds is not a lot, but compared to a boom of 6.99
or 20 pounds then yes it is expensive!

The thing is my head just went into plane mode for landing
silly but we all learn. hey come on my 1st 3 flights were fine
just the last one screwed up!

Like I said I can hover and put the heli where I like roughly
its just the next step is the hard bit.....

What I was getting at with my 20 comment, is the average cost of a Raptor repair is well over 20.

Here's a recent example, caused in seconds by a brain fart

                          Raptor 50 crash kit - 20
                          New BBT blades - 40'ish
New Carbon horizonal fin - 20

My worst ever Raptor crash, was a new Kit, new engine, 2 new servos, blades, plus odds and sods, making a bill of something like 500 8O

When you look at those costs, it gives you an incentive to learn the basics
