What's your Tx history?

I think mine went like this:
JR XP652 - 6 channels, 5 model memory, 2 model types, tiny LED screen at the top
JR XP8103 - 8 channel, 10 model memory, 3 model types
JR PCM10x - the fancy Curtis one. It was expensive and didn't really do anything the 8103 couldn't do, so I resented the money I spent on it.
Futaba 10C - The gold colour one. I hated it and got rid very quickly.
Spektrum DX8 - liked this a lot, had it for years

what baffles me is that the qx7s is 10x the radio of the 14mz but for 1/10th the price!

what really baffles me is how other than telemetry Spektrum really are no different in terms of software than my 9x2 was!

Back at the very beginning of my foray into the hobby the 2.4ghz stuff was just coming out, so I got the 1st gen DX7.
Over time I eventually had lots of models, all flybarred with loads of fine-tuned TX settings, subtrims, curves, etc. I became worried about losing all that work if the TX had a problem. So I got a DX7S because it has the SD card to back everything up.

But soon as I was going all FBL and there was very little model-specific settings in the TX. Sooooo, the earlier concern of backing everything up really wasn't an issue anymore.
I also picked up a 1st gen DX8 but was not using it very much until last year when my DX7S developed a problem and I moved everything over to the DX8.

So that's my TX history.... but in hind-sight, I could actually have been just fine sticking with the original DX7 (although now I'd be concerned again, just due to its age)

If we don't count the rubbish that comes with RTF stuff, it's as follows:

1: 2009: - Spektrum DX6i - Both me and my father chipped in to buy it as I built a super cheap Trex 450 clone back then. At this point I had no idea I was about to become obsessed. We still have it, though I have no idea why it was never sold.

2: 2009: - Spektrum DX7 - I bought it used, on Ebay I think, but I don't remember. I gave this to my father who sold it with his Trex 500 as an RTF setup around 2013.

3: 2011: - Spektrum DX8 - It had to go back as part of a product recall. Drifting pots I think, though mine never had the issue. I used this exclusively for 3 years. I sold it for £100 a few years ago when I crashed my last Bind and Fly parkzone plane that I had no intention of fixing. They still fetch the same money.

4: 2014 to present: - FrSky Taranis X9D - The Taranis just offered so much to me. Cheap Sbus receivers with built in telemetry. Cheap current and other sensors. At this point in time, Spektrum had no single line receivers that had telemetry (they did appear, years later) and satellites were still the goto for a helicopter. I was wanting current sensing so I didn't need a timer for my flights, and Spektrum literally had nothing without spending a fortune on an extra telemetry box, running a full Rx with every channel patched through, and they didn't even have a current sensor that could be used on a 700. FrSky's 2.4Ghz radio link was also receiving incredible reviews for range and reliability. After seeing someone else do it, I bought a broken DX7 (the JR made one like I had before) for the gimbals, and fitted them to the Taranis, which took care of the cheap feeling gimbals. A year or two later, FrSky released some hall effect upgrade gimbals, which I bought and fitted. These were under £20 each, and to this day, they are the best feeling sticks I've ever used, Jeti DS14 and my Vbar radio included.
Anything that isn't a helicopter still get's flown on the Taranis - it has a 4in1 module in it now, which increases the flexibility. I've thought about getting rid for a Radiomaster, but that offers nothing to me other than a nicer user interface.

5: 2016 - present: - Mikado Vbar control. I was a total skeptic on the Vbar control when it first launched in 2014. It wasn't until they added telemetry and made the sensors that my ears started to prick up. My decision to buy the Vbar control was entirely for the convenience of not taking a laptop to the field. A few other club members had them. I already flew Vbar (since November 2011), so there wasn't the added expense of kitting out all my helicopters with their units. I took the plunge, paying £444 for it from Fast Lad. It is the most expensive of all the radios, by some margin, and I won't be upgrading to the touch unless it gets a massive (50% or more) price cut. While it's a fantastic piece of kit, it just isn't worth more than double the original price to me. Mikado's margin on that radio must be massive.

Started off with a Futaba T6x I think it was
Swiftly got shot of that replacing with a Spektrum DX8.
Then changed to a JR DSX11 as a club member was selling his.
Final change was to a Vcontrol for the exact same reasons as bigpops. Likewise won’t be upgrading to the touch until my little boy is flying more as I don’t see the added benefits warrants the price.

When I first started I had a Spektrum DX 7 . That was good for a couple of years until it packed up one day. I sent it away to Horizon Hobby to be repaired but anticipating a bit of a wait I bought a DX8 which I still use.

(Horizon Hobby were quite quick. They returned the DX7 to me after a few days with a note saying that they had replaced the fuse and there would be no charge. I felt a bit of a chump for not checking the fuse although I didn't know it had one. I now use the DX7 only for the sim. My grandchildren play with the sim occasionally so now the aerial is broken).

The DX8 drives my Align helicopters.

Shortly after getting my TDR I put a v bar on it and have now (just before lockdown) acquired a V Control transmitter. I am still learning about it, weather and covid permitting.

As an "old fart", I started with a 27MHz Ground based TX with a superregen valve Rx, upgraded to "galloping ghost" then Simprop - which is still upstairs [loft somewhere] then a variety of JR, Futaba and DX 5,6,7 and 8's with latest being Taranis, unless you count the various DJIs for a few quads. regards.

You are a slightly older fart than I am. I used 27 mhz when I raced the toy cars (1/10th scale off road). It was a pretty crude device.

I then graduated to 40 mhz which was a FM transmitter. It was very sophisticated for the time. It had end point adjustments, dual rates, expo etc. I hadn't even dreamed of flying helicopters in those days.......

Started off with JR 2610, then JR 9x2, then JR ds9x, was always a JR flyer until getting a Mikado vbar control and not looked back.

Also started with 27mhz, Acoms Techinplus from memory and the onto Futaba 40mhz while racing cars.

Then into air with Futaba for most models but a Specky DX9 for indoor eflite stuff...
