Been watching this thread with great interest due to having recently got a Jumper T16 (amazing for the money) and being very tempted by the M2. Can anyone comment on flight times - the vids I have seen suggest that just over 2 minutes is normal which seems very short. Is anyone getting longer flight times?

Hey Buddy.Originally posted by PeteStewardson View PostInterestingly I posted on RCgroups, and helifreaks as well and haven't had much in the way of responses. I was expecting a few to have tried both.
I had seen your posts and the handful of replies. To be honest I think you'll find currently that the M2 appeals to the more backyard flier and the Oxy2 etc appeals to the more seasoned flier, not because of any major performance difference as such, but because they stick to the known brands.
The Oxy brand has carved a good name for itself through not only the models, but the backup and support behind it. OMP on the otherhand are still trying to make a name for themselves and going by their first attempt with helicopters in the M2, future releases should be just as good if not better.

Yeah, I guess right now it makes very little difference as my skill level doesn't allow me to fly one in the garden right now. I've also been told today I'm being dropped down to 4 days a week at work from next week so probably need to save some money on hobby stuff. Will keep an eye on the L200 and practice with the K110 until I have more space or get much much better

I was about to reply with something similar - first I'll declare a bias though - I've had OXY 2s since they came out and LOVE them.Originally posted by coolice View PostHey Buddy.

But I think you're right Ian - I've been following the M2 since it was announced and it is generally the "Micro Guys" that are moving up to it, whereas the OXY 2 guys are more often flyers of bigger helis that want a small one as well.
Personally I really don't like the sound of motorised tails - perhaps you get used to it, but I just find it annoying - having said that the M2 get really good reviews from people who's opinions I respect. I don't think that you can go wrong either way...Last edited by Mikej; 02-04-2020, 02:01 PM.

Oh - and just another thing - I was looking at the T16 also as it seems to be an absolute bargain.
Just making sure that you guys know about the problems with the ribbon cales needing reseating, hopefully you won't be afflicted, but if you start "losing" switches etc. then that's a likely source.

Mike,I had issues with my T16 and ended up buying a Taranis X9D plus, which has open TX also, i didn't go for the SE as i just can't get on with Hall Gimbals.Originally posted by Mikej View PostOh - and just another thing - I was looking at the T16 also as it seems to be an absolute bargain. I've just got myself a Jumper T16, the new version with the internal multi-protocol module. I got it as a second radio for using on cheap 'bind and fly' stuff. The multi protocol module is brilliant for this purpose, i can fly pretty much anything from the T16.Originally posted by Mikej View PostOh - and just another thing - I was looking at the T16 also as it seems to be an absolute bargain.

So far so good, OpenTx is a steep learning curve but it's just about 'clicked' now after some frustration at first.
The only issues I've had are:- Batteries need to be removed for charging which is not a big deal but you will need an 18650 battery charger.
- The batteries on mine slowly discharged even when turned off, or to be exact just one of the two 18650 cells slowly discharged the other one stayed charged as normal. Over 48 hours turned off all the time the battery would go from full to 'dead flat'. I traced this to the middle 'balance wire' on the battery power connector which was causing one cell to drain. I removed the middle pin from the plug and it's fine now, no more problems. The middle wire doesn't do anything anyway, unless you use the optional add on internal charge module. This as far as I've found is a one-off fault, I've not heard of anyone else experiencing it, but if you do you now know the fix.
- The switches can't easily be swapped. I like my throttle hold on the right and the momentary 'toggle' switch on the left for activating rescue. The T16 comes the other way around. The only way to change this was to de-solder the switches from their dedicated PCB, swap them over and re-solder. This was easy enough but some might not like doing it. The switch units are cheap to replace if you messed up.
Other than this I'd really happy with it, for the price it's amazing. The ribbon cables on mine have worked fine so far, they were a bit fiddly to re-connect after swapping the switches but not an issue.Last edited by Grumpy; 02-04-2020, 03:36 PM.Goblin Kraken, SoXos Strike 7, XLPower Specter, Goblin Black Thunder T, Goblin 700 Speed, Goblin 770 Comp Carbon, Trex 700X, Kasama Dune, Henseleit TDR

Mine is a T16ProV2 which I understand seems to have a few of the issues sorted. Certainly the USB-C charging works fine on mine so far. OpenTX really is frustrating though. I only really bought it for BNF stuff as I'll use my vBar for anything else.
As an update to this thread I decided to get my Oxy2 back. Worked out a lot cheaper than an M2 for now as I can use a Neo fbl on it as I have one spare. Plus as I can't fly it for a fair while probably it gives me something to strip down and build to keep me occupied for a bit.Pete

Mine is the V2 also.. So yours has USBC charger built in?.. i think this might be the problem with mine, I've checked and mine does indeed have the charge board built in, however mine does not charge when connected to USB. It must be a faulty charge circuit that is causing the battery to discharge. I'll get in touch with Jumper and see if i can get a replacement charge board.Originally posted by PeteStewardson View PostMine is a T16ProV2 which I understand seems to have a few of the issues sorted. Yeah I think that is the case, the hardcore heli fliers prefer the mechanical tail setups and as Lynx is a well established name within theose circles, it was the go-to model at this size. Tempting people away from them will take a bit more persuasion.
Ah yeah, thanks but I'm all up on the T16 woes having had mine since May last year, as I got one from the second batch with the older potentiometer style gimbals. I've upgraded to the hall effect last year, along with the USB-C charger last week.
To be honest a lot of the ribbon talk is pure complaining in my opinion.
Yes it's annoying to have to make sure they are seated properly, but a transmitter that looks and feels this good, is multi-protocol and sub £140 is a bargain. Plus being as powerful as the OpenTX software is (once you figure it out) and it's a small price to pay. A lot of them are simple drone guys that haven't had to endure real transmitter punishment :-)

If you've got the USB-C charge board then you'll also be susceptible to the issues many are reporting, which simply revolves around the fact that the charging IC chip cannot distinguish between a simple 1 amp charger and a more powerful 2 amp+ capable unit, at which point it allows too much current to flow and gets extremely hot very quickly and has died for a few people.
Jumper have supposedly admitted that the charging board design was made around using a simple 1 amp wall charger, hence the design. The charging IC is designed to be thermally connected to a heatsink, which would normally be through a very thick ground plane on the PCB, but it's not so is open to over heating if mistreated.
Someone over on the RCgroups topic found the IC datasheet and determined that with a simple smt resistor change, from 10K to 20k, you can limit the charging current to 0.5 amps to stay within good temperature limits of the chip.
I swapped mine over the other day just in case, as a quick test charging from a Samsung wall charger did show me the IC gets very warm where it makes your finger tingle.
To me knowledge there has been no mention of battery drain, but the horror stories start with “it was working, I charged it via USB-C and not it won’t switch back on”
I’ll grab the link.

Here are the USB-C charging mod links. The small smt resistor is 0402 size in reality, I got 0603 which work all ok once you scrape some of the green mask off the ground trace.

I thought it was cheap insurance going by what I was reading, not ideal again, but a big part of my love of this radio is the ability to play aroudn with it.Originally posted by PeteStewardson View PostWill have a look into this. I think I’ve got loads of those in a box somewhere.
I wouldn't take my JR 28X apart lightly, but this T16, get in to make it better and some fun at the same time :-)
