  • Lynx Oxy2 vs OMPHobby M2?

Has anyone flown both of these to have an opinion on which is the better heli flying wise?

I started selling off all my gear as I haven't flown in years. But recently I have been flying the sim a bit and got myself a jumper T16 and XK k110 to fly in the garden while we're all on lockdown.

This got me thinking though. Once we come out of this the other side if I've built up the skills to fly the K110 in my garden I'll be fine to fly something a little bigger in a patch near work. I did have an Oxy2 and have been offered it back again, but now there is also the OMP M2. Just wondered if anyone has experience of both? The Oxy is slightly larger but not massively so but I've seen little comparing them.

I am following this thread with great interest. I really like the look of the OMP Hobby M2.

Well I know I can get my old Oxy2 back for less than an M2, and I have a neo still sat here I could put in it. So the Oxy will work out a bit cheaper initially. But I could fly the M2 on the T16 TX I have bought and then maybe swap it to vbar later if I wanted. But if the M2 is better than the Oxy maybe it makes more sense. Difficult as I've not really found anyone comparing them much.

I luckily held on to my helis. They are outdated and dusty but have been able range test and hover them all. Lipos seem to have lasted the storage as well. I will need to find a local club once lockdown ends as I have since moved.

Surely you should get Oxy back anyway. I only heard good things about them.

I sold my Oxy2 that I never flew, my 480, 550 and Ballistic but still have an Oxy3 plus vbar control. The Oxy3 I found needs a fair amount of space as its super quick so wouldn't be able to do much with it at work.

Hopefully someone on here has the OMP Hobby M2. I would be interested to hear what it is like

              Hey buddy.

I've got an OMP M2 and love it, very capable and with a lower parts count. The latter the reason I went for it, as it was either this or the Align 300X, as being an Align flier this was the obvious choice and it looks a good model.
But due to not flying as much as I have in the past, crashing maybe on the agenda, so the lack of a usual tail mechanism and associated parts appealed.
Does it hold in fast backwards flight as well as a belt/shaft driven tail? So far I'll say yes and no, yes because backwards was good and no because it let go in a tail slide. However I'm rusty, so am looking forward to trying it again when all the virus lockdown blows over.

Overall though it's a nice little model, well designed and put together. Mikado have their own version coming with NEO flight controller, which will mean spares will be more readily available and I am sure the better flight controller will up the performance even more.

Like yourself it seems, having seen your post on RCgroups, I have and XK K110 also along with the cheap Jumper T16 for simple fun. The M2 is also on the T16 and feels good.

Hi Ian, Yeah I wanted a micro and the K110 seemed to be the one to get, but I only had a vcontrol TX so had to buy something. I got the T16 as it had the multi protocol module and was cheaper than many others. So far it seems ok on the sim. I've used your model profile for the K110 too but haven't had the chance to fly it yet as it only turned up yesterday as the wind picked up.

I'm not up to backwards flight yet so not sure I will worry about that just yet lol

                    Hey buddy.

Same here, I wanted something smaller and more bouncable than the Trex 150. The Blades didn't appeal to much unfortunately and the forums were raving about the XK K110, which at £70 delivered with the TX is cheap.
That worked well out the box, but I didn't feel comfortable with the supplied 2/3rd size TX and as I fly JR looked to the multi-protocol options and fortunately waited long enough for the T16 to arrive. Looked to be the right shape, look and price so went for it and glad I did. I had an early one so have since fitted the hall gimbals and yesterday the internal USB-C charging board. The latter I've now nodded with a different resistor to limit the charging current, as its sounding like it can pull too many amps for the heat dissipation of the PCB, or lack of some.

Competition for it is hotting up now with the Radiomaster T16S coming, it's cheap to without hall effect gimbals

You'll have to keep me posted on how you find my OpenTX file for the K110, to me it feels nice, but it's always good to hear others findings.

Half the fun with the T16 for me is being able to play with it, I wouldn't really play around with my JR 28X in a hurry.

If you've still got your Vcontrol, Mikado's M2 will be M2 up your street.

Yeah I saw that. Be interesting to see how much it costs when it comes out. Mikado being Mikado I'm expecting it to be pretty expensive. I think if I got an M2 I'd consider buying the ESC and mini Neo to upgrade to vcontrol at a later date, but there's no point buying one until we come out of lockdown if getting an M2/L200 so have time to wait. and see.

                        Resistance is futile ;-)

I wish I'd of got it sooner, as on release it was $249 dollars with 3 batteries. But it was a new model and brand, so I let others be the guinea pig so to speak. But it soon became clear the model was designed nice and flew well.
Only one hiccup came to light and that involves two small screws at the front and rear of the boom, ones which screw in the side to stop the boom sliding out at the front and tail case end. Basically the screws are too long and chaff the tail motor wires, with two failures occurring. So you either remove them or as I did shorten them.

I've also designed another under carriage mount for the front, which lowers the crossbar 3mm over the stock aluminium one. This allows the slightly deeper 3s LiPo packs to still use the slide in/out battery trays, otherwise you have to leave it out and just use a velcro strap.

Ian do you know if the Opti 3s 850mah packs will fit in the M2? I found 3 of them while clearing out a cupboard. They were bought for my Oxy2 but I never used them.

                            Hey Buddy.

Should do looking at the sizes, either without the battery tray, or with and my front UC holder.

These are the packs I'm using and while snug, fit in the canopy nice.

One other trick some are now doing is moving the rear canopy standoff forward 5mm to the anti-rotation bracket screw position.
