Posting Li-Po's within the U.K. Help please!!

Hey guys,

So I very recently bought 8 x 5000 mAh 6S 50C Li-Po's from and E Bay seller, having read a whole load of good reviews on these batteries.

When they arrived however, the IR's of gthe cells in all the packs is between 8 -12 milliohms (VERY, VERY high)

I am of course not willing to accept the 8 HRB packs I got that have very high IR numbers, which do not seem to be going down in value with Cycling at all.

HRB have agreed to refund once they have got the batteries back, BUT, I cannot find a U.K. courier that can legally accept any batteries as large as 5000mAh 6S due to shipping restictions here in the U.K., which prohibit packs larger than 100 Watt hours, and these packs are 111 Watt hours.

Not even if I send them individually.

Does anybody know where I can find a courier here in the U.K. that can accept 8 x 5000mAh 6S ipos to go from Central Scotland to Norwich?

I think I would try to get them to arrange a collection. If they sent them to you they should be able to get them back, let someone else be the one to worry about what the couriers will and will not carry.

The way these rules have been implimented is so arbitrary as to be nearly meaningless (like a shop can send one but not an individual, they can go if installed in a device etc. these types of regs do not jive with the idea of safety in a logical way). It's also in conflict with the distance selling regs where an item is not fit for purpose or not as described (or even just the cooling off period) etc. because the selling regs provide the buyer the right to return an item.

Unfortunately I believe the distance selling regulation laws have been superseded by new laws which allow the seller to state the return conditions in their terms and conditions.

I am in contact with the supplier of the HRB batteries via Facebook. She has told me that next Monday she will ask her contact here in the U.K. to arrange for a courrier to uplift the packs from my delivery address. We'll see how that goes I guess!

Well, as if I wasn't confused enough already, The Ebay seller sent the packs from a U.K warehouse, BUT, when I look at the sellers actual address, it says that they are in Germany!! I started the return proccess on ebay, and the seller accepted my return, and then I promptly got another message from ebay to say that the seller cannot provide a return label. So what the hell do I do then? I can't seem to figure out a way to contact ebay and explain that I cannot return these batteries because legally, no courier service is available to me. Arrrrggghhhh!!

The link I posted is from the UK Gov website and details the law NOW, which has been in force since 2015. Consumers still have all the same rights to cancel or return an item as under the distance selling regs (or if anything there is even more burden on sellers).

Yeah, the flipside is it keeps getting more difficult and cumbersome for businesses. I was in GDPR hell back in May trying to make sure we jumped through all the hoops and provided all the notices to be in compliance

The policies of RM and other couriers (on LiPos) creates something of a catch-22 though and I'm not sure how that squares with the selling regs

I wonder just how common a practice this is.... Not telling the courier that the contents is batteries is illegal, and could put the courier in danger if they don't know to give the parcel the respect and care deservign of li-po batteries in particular.

I expect plenty of them get sent every day. I agree they ought to label them.

I’m not so convinced about the 100Wh limit as IATA don’t really have any say on road transportation. There are a number of batteries for RC use, E-bikes etc that greatly exceed 100Wh.

I think the restrictions have greatly increased over the last 5 years, though why, I'm not sure at all. I know there hve been incidents involving air transport, but not road transport, but I have read that some mail is transported up and down the length of the U.K. by air, so therefore all mail sent must conform to the IATA regs for air transport, but having tracked a good number of parcels over the last few years,none of them were sent by air inside the U.K. so who knows!!
