You want a good cheap transmitter, the Graupner MZ-12 will do everything you need provided you don't need more than 6 channels and are happy to use head-phones or look at the screen for telemetry. It's small and very light but great sticks (I have the MZ-24 too and they're pretty-much the same, other than different adjustment options — I prefer the MZ-12 though because it's lighter and easier to program).
Morning all.
Thanks for your input. I went Saturday and baught a Dx8. Very nice piece of kit. Ive been in denial for a little while about my eye sight. So to be able to read the booklet i need glasses. So booking an eye test today.
Also i had to tell my other half how much ive paid out on this heli so far. So she's expecting a little more than £50 on her Christmas present now lol.
Its not a cheap hobby!

That's a solid choice and should serve you well. It's also a very easy radio to set up with most things being pretty intuitive. I didn't need to read the manual on my older DX8, but I did refer to forum advice a couple of times. Some of the switch assignments were a bit quirky, but I've heard that they cleaned this up on the latest radios i.e. you can pretty much assign functions to any switch you like. Setting up models, flight modes, rates and pitch curves etc couldn't be any easier.

I started on the heli last night. Ive got the rotor head built up. Going to do a little more now.
Another question if thats ok?
Im going to be ordering the reciever tomorrow.
It looks like i need to order a swash plate leveling tool. Any you'd recommend or are they all a much of a muchness?
Hi mate , take extra care when assembling the tail pitch linkage, it's easy to get thread lock into the bushes , I've also found that sometimes
you cant tighten them fully up as they bind , test for free movement 1hr after you've assembled the linkage
The 6s can be easily tamed, all you need to do is set a slightly lower throttle curve. Personally i'd take the 6S version every time as it has a few upgrades other than the 6S motor.

Good point Grumpy. You can also dial in a little S curve in for the pitch curve so tame it down a little around hover (if the radio can do that).
Probably a slower head speed would be best tho, it will also help with flight times!

Swash levelling tools are usually heli specific so you need to look for one compatible with your particular heli model. Some require the head to be removed and some can be used with the head in place. I prefer the latter if available and they usually set the swash zero position at the same time too. But again it has to be designed for your specific heli to work properly.

FWIW I have swash levellers but more often than not I just level the swash by using a cable tie wrapped around the head.... Get a leveller if you like but it's very much an optional tool, not a necessity.
Thought i should put up a little update.
Well, its almost built minus the electrics. Not had a lot of spare time in the last week or so. Been prepairing and wrapping presents for Christmas. Also i learnt years ago that if you're not in the right frame of mind for something, to leave well alone. So (touch wood) everything has gone together fine with no cross threaded or lost screws etc.
Ive not baught any batteries or charger as yet so not feeling the need to rush to get it in the air.
Going to carry on with it next week whilst im off work.
Should be ready to set up by then.
We'll see lol.
