Also I watched a HH video where the chap suggested that the swash wont be level and not to worry about it because it's only because the ground its sitting on isn't perfectly level.
The trim flight has nothing to do with trim or subtrim in the radio. It's just a flight where you move the sticks first in a certain manner to put the heli into a special "trim flight mode". You then fly it and hold a level hover for 30 seconds or so then land and come out of trim flight mode.

It's a calibration flight really. Hence why I think the RTF option *may* be better as these will have been flown against their binded radio in the factory - probably just for a trim flight.

Yeah, it's not good I think the many may be struggling to get their heli into "trim flight mode" - certainly the movement of the sticks isn't obvious and influenced by throttle and pitch curves (not to mention expo/DR settings!). I imagine many think they're doing a trim flight, when in reality they're just doing a normal flight

None of this changes the fact that the trim flight shouldn't be necessary on a BNF heli ...

I see. It seems like every HH heli I look at has a known issue out of the box. Is that just how it is with this hobby or are new models simply not fully rigorously tested before release?
The only reason I don't want to go for the rtf version is that it feels like that would be defeating the object of buying my radio.

I think they are not fully test when they come out of the factory. I do see your point with the RTF version would make it easier but as you move on you still have to buy another tranny for your next heli.My out look is that I only need one which I shouldn't need to change ever or just to keep up with trend. So its up to you.I have 200srx which I love to bits and 230s, trex 500 which I done my first landing last week.Mostly I fly the 200 becausebi live across the road from a field so not got to go to my club to fly.

Personally I think they do test carefully before release, but maybe pre-production models have higher QC than mass-market production runs ?

I probably shouldn't complain too much. I'm sure some of the old school rc pilots are wondering what all this complaining is about compared to what they had to overcome to get early models off the ground. Perhaps beginners expect too much?
I'll keep on going with the msrx and keep an eye on the 230s chatter.

That's why I always recommend the nQX quad for beginners. It flies like a micro CP heli with none of the downtime or setup hassle. I was getting 200+ flights per month out of mine when I first started.

I use the dx6i for my msr and msrx and thought it would be nice to add the next heli to it. I also feel that radios that come with rtf models look a little bit toyish, although from the online pictures the the Dxe is one of the better looking ones I've seen.
I've commented on some of the 230s youtube videos to see if they have had any issues so far, and the responses have been positive with no one even being aware of any swash issues.
How annoying that it appears to be a gamble when it comes to getting a good one.

you are not the only one having these problems.
I am thoroughly fed up with this heli after only 1 terrible flight where i had to pull full back and right on cyclic to get it airbourne. I am phoning the shop in the next 5 mins as this is ridiculous. I am bnf on my dx9
It is supposed to have been checked prior to sending as the shop was waiting on some info due to a suspected faulty batch and had told me there were a lot of returns and they would not send me one until they had sorted it. They told me they had checked most of the batch yet this one is a lemon..

I thought I was the only one who had a problem with the 230s.
