I'd also be wary of buying from eBay.com. If there's a problem .com will refer you to .co.uk who won't want to know because it was bought on .com.
My one fear is that if anything happens to me my wife will sell all my stuff for what I told her it cost.

            Stick to reputable dealers - Midland, Fast-lad, Align-Trex.co.uk, rc-hero.co.uk.

My tuppence - I'd say a 450 is a reasonable heli to learn with - micros (like the mSRX/mCPX) can be useful too. Personally I learnt using a combo of a 450 and a micro (mCPX). For larger helis (500,550,600), I personally believe you need a club/lessons to safely progress with them. If you're looking to learn on your tod, I wouldn't go beyond a 450.

If you do get a 450 (or higher), you should also get 3rd party insurance from the BMFA or RCHA.

PS. Avoid ebay (did I mention that already?)

            Hi Tomatwaldon,

Thanks mate , I'm looking at a mode 2 DX8 here £160 seems a good deal there's a lot of price fluctuations with this kit maybe the time of year with some retailers offering discounts etc. Insurance , a good call so if I crashed in to my motor they will cover me !? :-) ha sounds like a very good plan .

A case is a good idea. I use one of these: Turnigy Transmitter Bag / Carrying Case (UK Warehouse)

It does the job fine and costs less than £8 .. what's not to like!

                        Thanks 10x / Grumpy ,

So with the Spectrum DX8 I'll have here £149.99 that's all I'll need that will bind with my T-Rex no problem as it is? Ok full school boy here but when I source the Heli Im taking it it will come with the RX kit and I'll need to make sure that's compatable with the DX8? I'm a little confused with the software updates on hardware onboard the Heli not yet researched this yet it's next on my hit list !

ill check these cases and Sim !

In your original post you mentioned the beastx...If you have the spectrum version you will be able to bind to that as it has a built in receiver. The proper beastx does not....

Most new helis don't come with receivers, so you have the option to select your own to suit your Tx. But if it does have a receiver any DSM2 or DSMX compatible receiver will work with the DX8.

Helis come in three basic forms - prebuilt, kit with supplied electronics, and kit only (you supply your own electronics)

with the exception of micro helis (which are predominantly spektrum dsmx), even helis supplied with electronics can have their rx changed.

Worth also noting, most modern flybarless controllers will work with the major transmitter types (spektrum, futaba, etc.)

Thanks for this , I'll order the DX8 then I think as anything else will be waisted on me I'm thinking ! Then spend some time with a sim see how I get on Im feeling pretty confident then I May just go for a good spec'ed used Heli that someone has put together some electronics upgrades on and is looked after , I'm assuming even if I purchase I new 500/550/600 once it's hit the deck I've pretty much crashed my warranty as well with that !
