Slightly off topic I know.but what really grips my nuts is people asking "can I get"..eg "Can I get cod and chips please" There is a young girl at my local takeaway who replies "no I'm sorry you can't but I will happily get them for you" Good girl!

On a similar vein ... people who use "I want" rather than "I would like" ... politeness is free!

On another off-topic topic, many years ago I used ship-to-shore radio where there were strict protocols about what was said and how it was said, or mariners could find themselves in trouble if the message was misunderstood.

Spelling mistakes!

I can honestly say that my education in the English language was almost none existent. If it wasn't for private lessons I'd have had a truly awful education. I was never tought about verb or nouns and how to construct a sentence properly and I can honestly say that it's only now that I'm suffering from this slapdash education. I struggle to learn any language because I don't know how my own is constructed. Grammar is even worse

It's getting worse to. The current crop of school leavers are even more clue less then me.

Spelling has always been an issue for me, I don't understand phonetics like most people and I have learn every word parrot fashion.

So if I do get it wrong feel free to correct me but please explain why it's wrong. I'm 31 and not afraid to admit that my English language is absolutely appalling.

PS. Frankly I'm embarrassed by this.

I like the diverse mix of people on the forum from all walks of life brought together by the hobby. A few grammatical errors and spelling mistakes are par for the course. Some may not be as good as others at grammar and spelling, but i bet they are better at other things, like flying model helicopters!

Joe - nothing to be embarrassed about! Buy a copy of Lynne Truss' book "Eats, Shoots and Leaves". It's quite a light-hearted guide to grammar, which makes things easier to take in I find!

Quite! In contrast, I've seen some posts on Helifreak where the English was so poor, that some (not me!) have replied to the OP basically saying .. "we can't understand what you're saying/asking!".

Personally my pet hate is people using text speak.

I hate this too! And you'll find people who are not bothered about this are people who can't spell themselves!

Why is it threads like this just roll and roll but if someone wants help setting up an esc for example, it goes quiet lol
