Your correct there. We visited a local well known club and was told our heli was to loud and can we piro the other way as unloading the tail is creating the noise yet we have the same engine and silencer setup as other members there that day.strange that .i can tell you now our heli conforms to the recommended bmfa noise levels and in ten years we have never had a complain on our field.

Heli's are generally flown lower and closer than planes, so although quieter, the perception is of being far louder. Very distracting for someone gazing up at a plane to have something below their vision sounding dangerously close.

I try to fly circuits when the planes are out, but it's becoming a hassle lately and I'd much prefer my own spot instead of everyone gathered together. I've got my name down for MK Heli, but it could be a year before I get through the queue

although I have to drive 20 minutes to a mixed plank/heli club, or 25 minutes to a heli only club I'm strating to feel I'm spoilt. At the mixed club we can usually operate a separate heli flight line, and a lot of the plank flies are flying FPV so they don't really take up any space on the field.

One issue the plank fliers have with helis in the air at the same time is that they can't hear if their engine has stopped or not as our model is closer and they are old and deaf mainly anyway. Fortunately at our mixed club we can be far enough apart for that not to really matter, and over 50% of the fixed wing are electric anyway.

At least we can fly helis off any scabby field - we don't need yards of mown grass, just a small area of flatness.

If someone wants to hear your heli on full throttle you could fit some head loaders for the test. Just show them it with the stick right up - they wont know its on a governor!

And a little bit stupid aswell I guess assuming with a plank you can actually FEEL the power has died immediately like a heli so you could fly without any ears lol

My limited experience of clubs has led me to believe that most members don't actually give a toss about anything, it is usually just a few that make it difficult for others if they don't fit into their personal way of doing or seeing things. Unfortunately due to general apathy, they get into positions of influence and then force things down a path they want. Easiest way is always to get out and find something with a few friends, much more fun 😊

North Norfolk Aeromodellers Fly at two sites, Felthorpe and Saxthorpe just outside Norwich. They're good with helis now thanks to Maj and I fighting our corner and is our main club fields we fly at.

Norwich Model Aero Club also fly at two sites, Coltishall Airbase and a farm site at Whitecross nr Aylsham. Club is run by complete twats that know nothing about helis and we got sick of fighting with the committee so are no longer a members there. They will take new members but DO NOT SAY HELIS ARE YOUR CHOSEN THING!!!!

Welcome to the all new Northrepps Model Flying Club website. This is a work in progress so dont expect much at the moment. fly at Northrepps Airfield on the Norfolk coast nr Cromer. Very nice site but can get busy at the weekends with full size so you more often than not need a spotter at those times as you fly off the runway. We no longer fly there because all though they were quite welcoming of us generally, there was still very much an us and them type atmosphere and you'd quite often get the plane lads would keep 2 or 3 planes in the air and not let the heli pilots get the flight line which is no good for anyone.

Norwich Helicopter club unfortunatley lost their main site at the Norfolk Showground just outside Norwich which was a brilliant field. It's the only heli only club in the area but the field they have access to now is just not very good at all. It's literally 5 mins from where I live but not worth joining until they sort a proper site out.

And that brings me onto our own heli only field. We've been unbelievably lucky to have Rob Morris secure a site and invite a few of us to share the cost and this is without doubt the most perfect of them all but there is only a few of us that fly there and we're going to keep it that way to make sure we keep it long term.

                      And the above from Dentman.

yep , we now fly in the middle of a grasstrack track tad small but having to dodge trees , hedges , people , sheds , caravans , people shooting , more trees , it keeps ya on your toes i can tell ya , one bonus though , trying to get a ride around the track superb .

Thanks Gents, I live on the old raf coltishall airbase but that club is no Helis at all its a shame their flight line is literally 300 meters away . Only after a place to fly at once a month. I work in northern Ireland and only get back to Norfolk once a month.
