      Well the wire will arrive tomorrow or monday I think, its been dispatched

      Only problem now is that the winding diagrams are getting more and more complicated...

      I dont understand the difference between Y and YY , and why I would want YY

        a lot of information is removed from internet(dead links). It's very difficult to calculate how to wind the motor- you must do test winding with smaller diameter wire or you can try to communicate with pro's like torro from helifreak.com

          Ok, but would it be possible to explain to me what the 5+6 YY arrangement that you used is?... its very close the the Kv im aiming for...

                  Someone at one of the clubs I fly at has just started rewinding motors so if the info you're looking for is not in that doc or otherwise forthcoming I'm sure I can find out.

                    There are basic questions like:

                    whats the difference between YY and Y, and why should I use one or the other lol, is YY just the same layout but doubled up (i.e. two strands in parallel).

                    The stuff on the internet seems to jump from very simple to very difficult without the explaination in the middle

                        It sounds a very good idea to do a test run with thinner wire. It will be much easier, good practice and will act as a fuse if there are accidental shorts. You can also test your motor with a small battery.

                          yes I have ordered two thicknesses of wire, 0.63mm and 1.25mm

                          I think a lot of people are using 1.4mm on this motor, but I thought that might be a touch too difficult to wind for a first attempt.

                            well if my understanding is correct. If I wind it with the smaller wire, the kv will be the same (well very similar off load)..... just less power before it melts....

                            kv-rpm reader on order from hobbyking. I could have made one out of an arduino and lcd but didnt want the extra hassle of an extra unknown.

                            Im going to start at 6+5 and see where I go from there, if its still too quick I will go to 6+6. I think I understand what those numbers mean now, though it might be good to have a chat with your club mate Trillian and check im going in the right direction!

                              I have PM'd him on our Facebook page and asked if there is a good single source of info you can access. I'll let you know as soon as I get a reply (unless the forecast does a complete 180 I doubt I'll be down at the club this weekend or I'd ask him about it in person)

                                Had an email back from scorpion about seperating the stator from the stator holder;

                                1) use an appropriate size tool to punch it out
                                2) if that doesnt work soak it it industrial alcohol for 24 hours (meths) and then punch it out once the epoxy has weakened.

                                Quite a helpful email really, though they made sure I knew that the warantee wouldnt be valid any longer

                                Fortunately I had this apart using method 1) a few days ago....


                                I bit of a delay on the wire though, will be Wednesday at the earliest I think... there was a problem with dispatch because they didnt have the correct thickness paper

                                Photos of the rewind and any results that dont result in smoke to follow


                                As per my 'ad' in the wanted section, if any of you have burnt out motors or just motors that you dont want any more, feel free to send them my way for me to practice on
