  • rewinding scorpion

I have an old scorpion 4035 560kv and im going to have a go at rewinding it to give me between 450 and 500kv.

Its early days yet - im still taking it apart. I think the stator holder is glued (epoxy) into the stator, and so trying to get it apart without destroying it....

Does anyone know where to get hold of the enamelled motor winding wire?... I cant seem to find it at RS, but may be looking in the wrong place....

Has anyone else re-wound their motors?..

    Thanks

    James

I have found scorpion very approachable. Ask them what you need to do. They also have kits available.

          awesome link.

I need to look into how to control the kv, if of course I can get the motor apart safely.....

I did mine 4035. Used 1,45mm wire in 6+5 YY configuration.
            0,2mm insulation paper.
I get about 500Kv and a lot of power.
For stator removal use freezing spray (-40C) from autoparts shop.

                  Well done James,
venturing into motor winding its not the cup of tea for everyone, but I am surely interested on how this ends up

the surgery on my Dx8 went well, running smooth now. Thanks for the instructions, Paste and paper back to you when I see you next, I suppose they will be handy on this new project!

                  keep it up.

Well I have two of these motors now. One of them was pretty much fit for the bin, so nothing ventured nothing gained. Its one of the early 4035's and needed a good once over

Im going to try and re-wind it to 450kv, so that should be 10 turns rather than 8.... will have to see if I can physically get the copper on....

And now I have to work out how to re-wind it..... looks both simple and highly complicated!

I'll be curious to see how you get on. I have often wondered if a 4025 or 600mx could be wound for a lower KV than 510 as no one makes a smaller heli motor at lower KVs. I guess it's just a matter of the physical fit of the wires but I would think it should be possible because the 4025 is the same diameter as the 4035.

I was surprised when I learned it's only a few turns, I always thought it was something only a machine could really do. It's simple in concept but just has to be done totally right or something could get fried.

I've spent a lot of the afternoon trawling it.... lots of dead links, but a few useful leads....

its a 12N10P (12 stator teeth and 10 magnet poles) design, and there isnt a huge amount about how to wire those....

I have found this though, which seems to be useful:
