Hi can any one recommend a good small voltage regulator for my x50 as I am changing all my helis from nimh to lipo as I don't trust them anymore had a brown out on the table luckily not in the air , need something small as on the x50 there is not a lot of room and suitable for a 2s.

The scotty gray one looks the dogs but a bit steep for me at £120 . Ive got the futaba one in my X50 & its been great . About £65 mate

How about no reg and using a Life pack. No regulator to go wrong and a constant supply

I tried that route davey but i did'nt like the fact that my futaba battery checker kept giving me odd readings on a 2150 life pack i was only getting one flight & it was down to roughly 50% . With the same size lipo i only use 20% max per flight & i get a pretty true reading on the checker . Only my findings mind i know plenty of guys use them without issues

the align 2 in 1 reg and lipo fit the x50 with the later type radio tray (it is larger than the original x50b one)

the futaba reg will fit any model as its so small

ElyQ has developed a wide experience in the field of converting power energy, through a specific unit inside ElyQ that has been working for years in the matter. Alternatively, I just bought this one for my TREX700, it's a brilliant regulator, you can add alarm, remote switch, remote LED etc..

I've been tempted recently to try one one of these TT8087 | Thunder Tiger BEC-8 Regulator

The specifications make them look very good, the price is reasonable and they're not over large so installation shouldn't be a problem. I read an article recently about it and the writer had nothing but praise for it and we haven't heard any horro stories about failures.

I flew one of these for quite some time on an FBL machine with no problems. It's not fancy but does exactly what it says on the packet, also it has a nice little led display to keep you informed of your battery state.

All you have to do rob is measure what capacity goes back in, the battery checker is no good for LiFe as you've found out. I use 2300's with a 700 fly my own version of 3D and get 4 flights out of a pack before I change over. The Heli uses around 350-400mah per flight. The %age you see on the small checkers are very inconsistent as they measure voltage and not capacity, as the voltage drops with capacity on a LiPo they can guess what os left with LiFe voltage remains reasonably constant although capacity is dropping.

Yeah, that's what I've been using the last couple of years. Can't see why anyone would prefer to use a regulated setup -more cost, more weight, more potential to fail, more messy wiring. I've read that the supposed advantage is that the voltage holds more constantly but I'm not sure how true this is (let alone whether anyone would actually notice in flight). When I had an Align regulator, if I wiggled the sticks on the bench, my Spektrum telemetry would show very significant voltage drop and whilst the Align unit may not be the best regulator on the market, I think you still get this with most/all regulators (perhaps to varying degrees).
