  • 2012 F3C Comps - Anyone fancy it??

A few from my local club (including myself) are going to compete in some F3C comps next year. The season opener is usually about April, they talk you through the manourves etc. The comps are usually at Dartford and Tring I believe.

I have also been advised that we can now fly flybarless machines at these competitions, which is a bonus!

    These are the 2011 schedules:

Clubmans - Ideal first competition, you pick 8 manoeuvres to fly.

    2011 Clubmans Schedule

Sportsmans - Bit harder and have do all set manoeuvres

    2011 Sportsmans Schedule

Anyone else gonna give it a go?? Plenty of time to practice! Would be good to get a few there. Nothing too serious just a bit of fun (well that's how I am approaching it)

    James

    Go for it!

One word of advice - don't be too ambitious in your first comp! Stick to a level that's well within your capabilities, rather than try to push the envelope!

Its amazing how, the first time you walk out in front of judges, your knees start knocking and your thumbs start twitching uncontrollably! By keeping things simple initially, you'll enjoy the experience far more!

Best of luck, and welcome to the madhouse!

    Pete

No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationery.

I have been thinking about it but had hoped to be further along this year. I'm getting there slowly but surely and with a
bit of luck and some work I might have a go at the clubmans next year.

Yeah I need to read the clubmans schedule again and take a handful of moves that I'm already OK on and
start to lash them together into a whole routine. Where I really need to put in some time is on the hovering.
As soon as I have to hover over a flag I'm all over the place.

I believe they're allowing flybarless helis on a trial basis to see if it brings more people along. No doubt it will and will be deemed a success, but there is still no indication that they will be allowed in the near future for the high level competitions.

Will there be any points allowance then for helis with and without a flybar, competing in the same class or will there be separate competitions for flybarred and flybarless machines?

me too!, I did a few comps a couple of years back. You do your test hover and fly the heli out to a circle on the ground

Could a land that *****rd thing in the circle!! Good laugh though.

Hmm, not thought about it, but looks like something I can get my teeth into and bring on the precision of my flying. I'll practice over the winter and see how I get on!

I keep telling myself that I want to do the sportsman's but don't get enough hours flying in :-(

I'm really really hoping that next year I can have a go and see what happens.

Edit... I hadn't noticed that the sportsmans (was a sportsmans A and B when I last looked) had changed so much.... Guess its the clubmans for me

                    Why not do the Clubmans?

Something just went wrong with my posting (think safari hung up) as I was just about to say I think the clubmans will be the way to go. Last time I looked there was a sportsman's A and sportsman's B...

Yeah there was not enough activity in the sportsmans and clubmans comps, sometimes with only one person entering!
As far as I know there will not be a separate comp for flybarless nor any points adjustment.

I will be giving it a go, but I know I will go too bits on the flight line, so I can assure anyone having a go they will not come last.......

I've fancied F3C type flying, especially after seeing Dave Fisher do an awesome demonstration flight, in the wind, at Weston Park in 2010, but Idon't know what setup the heli needs.
I use the standard Align advised settings from the manual for my helis with just a few tweaks.
Do I need different settings for the F3C.
Where can I find setup info?
Do you need a 'B' cert to compete?
