I`m no expert, far from it and I have to say that I find sourcing, selecting music and then adding routine to it, one of the hardest things I have ever done with an RC helicopter. The good news is Richie and Mattie will be advising people what the judges are looking for etc and am sure will offer some expert advice when it comes to music. I feel Richie also offers good advice when he says choose a band or music you like, as I find that slightly easier when starting to practice flying to music.

I would suggest a couple of things:

    1. Immerse yourself in examples of videos of flight to music - search Kyle Dahl, Duncan Osborne, Nick Maxwell, Stu Smith - they are all fantastic pilots who are excellent at flying to music. Trex-Pedro also did a great flight at Champs 2010 (I think). Just watch and look at the key 'beats' they hit or what type of music they are flying to, this could help.

    2. Write down the manoeuvres and flight sequences you are comfortable doing. Try and go for the basics that you do well as when you are trying to hit a 'beat' even the basics will be difficult and attempting something you have yet to perfect could end up looking very messy when you apply a music track, so try and keep it relatively simple.

One thing a few guys have said, is that practising for comps and flying to music gives you added confidence and makes you a more disciplined pilot, this can only be a good thing!

    Good luck all!

I haven't flown to music but love watching it, my favourite discipline. Some try to hit the beat and if the song gets too fast it all ends up looking ragged and then it's just a flight with some background music. Duncan uses both beats and vocals to hit, so to us it looks like it's all in time. Take a look at his 2011 Masters to the Foo Fighters and you will see what I mean.

Others like Nick Maxwell use the type of music by changing it in flight to set maneouvres to, again his 2011 Masters is a great example of this.

Andy K reckons it's the hardest thing he's done, you have to be at a particular place in the routine for it to look coreographed in order to move into the next bit so timing is everything.

Good luck with it, I'll be there to see how it all goes.

Yeah, only done it once but it is definatly the hardest thing i have had to do yet with a model.
The most important thing for me was to choose music with a tempo i could keep up with!.Dont try to do moves to every beat, but do pick out the important bits and go to town on them.Work on positioning first,so you are in the correct area of flightline to start your chosen manouver, and the bigest piece of advise i would say is to take it easy.,the music has a habit of taking over the flight if your not carefull!

Lol loving this it's certainly a new challenge, so it's got to make us better flyers in the long run

So how is everyone getting on matching their flying to Music yet. all tracks chosen? hows the practice going, ive done alot more on the sim than normal, just trying to get something together that kinda goes with the flow of the tracks.

this is obviously aimed at the sports flyers, however it would be nice to hear from the better pilots who may be trying to music for the first time

and we got 4 weekends worth of practice to go and I for one can't wait
                    All the best
