I`m no expert, far from it and I have to say that I find sourcing, selecting music and then adding routine to it, one of the hardest things I have ever done with an RC helicopter. The good news is Richie and Mattie will be advising people what the judges are looking for etc and am sure will offer some expert advice when it comes to music. I feel Richie also offers good advice when he says choose a band or music you like, as I find that slightly easier when starting to practice flying to music.
I would suggest a couple of things:
1. Immerse yourself in examples of videos of flight to music - search Kyle Dahl, Duncan Osborne, Nick Maxwell, Stu Smith - they are all fantastic pilots who are excellent at flying to music. Trex-Pedro also did a great flight at Champs 2010 (I think). Just watch and look at the key 'beats' they hit or what type of music they are flying to, this could help.
2. Write down the manoeuvres and flight sequences you are comfortable doing. Try and go for the basics that you do well as when you are trying to hit a 'beat' even the basics will be difficult and attempting something you have yet to perfect could end up looking very messy when you apply a music track, so try and keep it relatively simple.
One thing a few guys have said, is that practising for comps and flying to music gives you added confidence and makes you a more disciplined pilot, this can only be a good thing!
Good luck all!
