For the past 7 months or so I have been flying a Microhelicopter (Feeda Dragonfly) and have within the last couple of weeks got myself a nice Shuttle Plus (And a big headache from the wife!). Any tips for the move upwards?

Moving from Micro to Nitro
-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.
A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly
And a DX8 tooTags: None

Thanks
Thanks. I know a couple of experienced flyers, one of which has set my baby up for me and made sure she was airworthy! to whom I am very grateful. I just wanted to sort of say hello to the community as I joined a while ago but didn't realy get involved. Thanks for the reply. (you can see a couple of pictures in the gallery, the album being My misses hates....)-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

Welcome Jamez
I have found that having 1 or 2 mentors has helped me with tips/steps to complete the heli, and general advice.
Invest in a sim (saves overall), and keep practising.
The cost may keep you 'offside' with the missus, but if you are out of her hair for a few hours on the weekend I'm sure she won't mind.

Rumour has it the micro is harder to fly than the IC but that has yet to be proven to me ( I think the IC is a MUCH more scary prospect just from size). My micro flying is just coming on enough to start side on hovering and a little bit of forward (the training gear came of at the start of the year and it looked tiny without that on!) but thanks all for the replies. Get stuck in with the Micro!!!!-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

The micro heli's, especially the fixed pitch ones, are definitely harder to fly that nitro models. You will find once you move onto the nitro models there is a major difference in the handling. I started with a hummingbird fp which was twitchy as hell, but cracked hovering and then progressed onto my hawk sport without using training legs.Ant

Wind
It was a bit windy on the first flight with my Shuttle, so not realyable to compare the 2 yet but will keep my progress posted, you are a brave man to fly the nitro without trainning gear, mine was and still is firmly attached!-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

I'm sure you will all find flying the larger IC helis much easier than the little micro electric ones.
The reason for this statement is that the IC models are all much bigger and therefore have more bulk, weight and a much larger rotor disk (the circle you can see when the blades are spinning) All these factors help the stability of the model emensely. The bulk and weight becuase there is far more presence in the air and therefore being far less likely to be affected by wind and the larger rotor disk to aid smoothness of hovering and control, so it will be far less twitchy than a micro electric model.
If you are having problems maintaining a smooth hover with the little electric models, it doesnt mean that you will have the same problems with the larger .30 and .50 size models, so don't be put off trying the larger ones just because you are having trouble with the little electric ones. My advice would just be to go for it and have fun
I hope this helps.

flying Sunday
Sunday looks good in this part of the world for Shuttle flying, will have to see how easy hovering is without too much wind (as it was blowy). As for getting the 50 off the ground, go for it..... whats the worst that can happen.-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

I flew (test flew) a mates piccolo a while back as he said I had more chance keeping it in 1 poece than him. I had been flying the Nexus for a while so did so. Very twitchy is my diagnosis. A Nitro heli is certainly far more stable and now having flown the Raptor 50, it would seem the bigger the better they fly.
Once you can sustain a stable hover and place the heli where you want I recommend you remove the training undercarriage as this will start to slow your progress. Just take it carefully as a Nitro heli is certainly far more dangerous than a lecky micro one.
