  • Dodgy heli maybe?

i bought my nimbus electric heli not that long ago but ever since i got it outa the box it has a mind of its own.Drifts left all the time as soon as you increase the throttle and as soon as you lift off it spins around in circles.

I have done what the shop says and adjusted the slider for the tail rotor but this has no or little effect to cure this problem.

Who wants to gain points for the comp to help me find out whats wrong?

I have contacted the shop telling them the probs and that id like a refund but with no response to that email i dont know what they are going to do.Probably nothing.

The shop test fly these helis b4 sending them out but i get this problem stright out of the box.

I dont think i will get a refund but i told them that if they do i WILL buy a better one which would be better to learn with.

Would you recommend a humming bird instead?

sorry about the lengh of this topic

To be fair, you should call the shop and arrange a time for them to be able to test-fly the heli for you. There may be a reason for this tail drift.

If they cannot get it to work properly (and can see that for themselves) they may be more forthcoming with a replacement/refund.

Has the heli ever been crashed ?
Are all the linkages straight ?

What tx are you using ?
What gyro are you using ?

This may help people give more advice too.

        Spinning in circles.

Have you checked that the flybar paddles are level, the gyro gain is set properly (should tell you in the manual how to do this). as these are the 2 main problems I had with my Micro that caused the tail to spin, also your left drift, dose the swashplate site level when you TX sticks are centred, if not the servo horn might be in the wrong place. Hope this is some help, I had all these problems with my 'ARTF' micro.
-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

        And a DX8 too

did you get a flying and instruction dvd with your heli like you do with the twister and hummingbird, the twister one is really basic but the hummingbird one is very informative.

No got no manual or dvd or anything really.Got a email bk from the shop saying this...

            Dear Mr Newton,
from information provided it sound more like 'ground effect' which is common
to all small electric helicopters. As previously mentioned we will willingly
check the model to see if there is any other problem. There is only one
other helicopter on the market that does not suffer so greatly from 'ground
effect' and this is the Hirobo Larma XRB (just reviewed in this months R/C
Heli magazine). If you require us to arrange collection, please phone and
ask for Karen or Clive. Believe first thing is to check this model out then
sort out what you would like from then.
            Regards,
            Sussex-Model-Centre

Hirobo Larma XRB??? Sounds expensive.

Nah just saw that one and not one id like.

            Hummingbird sounds like the choice.

Mine was a deal where i got a Esky controller 4channel.Not sure on what the gyro make is?Its all built into one box on heli.

There is the link to the one i bought if anyones intrested.

              hirobo lamma

Yeah about 200 quid for a tethered (cabled to the mains job) counter rotating blades one above the other so as no tail rotor needed but still a micro. Your Nimbus is a Colco thunderbird/spyhawk, I kow someone who had a gyro fail on the third flight, does the tail cut out after it leaves the ground?

Bugger! Yes thats almost what it does.Ive crashed twice and both were not hard but one snapped the tail rotor as it got caught between a piece of wood.

I can get it to take off then as soon as it leaves the ground it buts out the tail and the heli spins around like crazy and lands again

                  dodgy gyro

sounds like thats it but don't take my word for it (i haven't seen it) send it back to SMC and tell them the broken blade is a direct result, see what they say.

i said if they wont take refund as blade was broken(now replaced with new blade)
and one strut of the undercarriege was broken (now fixed) then i will pay for new undercarriege so i can have a refund as it would then look like new again.

Looks like i might have to drive down to them but i dont want to have to travel all that way to have them say nah no refund and im stuck with it.

Remember, some Model Shop owners/employees read these forums.

Not worth trying to decieve them as their years of experience will know what's happned to most models, and they often have the quick fixes to most problems too.
