    Hi

I am a newbie in fly. I have been lurking in here for sometime now, 'learning' as much as possible from others idea.

I have been reading up on which heli to get. Lots of opinion, but commonly accepted that a CX2 and pheonix is the way to start. Pheonix is def a good idea.

I was then toying with HB king or Belt CP, but finally took the plunge and placed an order on Nobay for a belt CP from China and waited patiently for its arrival.

Man, got words from china today its not coming anytime soon, the fxxker's out of stock!!!!!!!!!!!!! i couldnt believe it. All this time wasted.

Anyway, i am now having a second thought. I know i will eventually get a trex 450 SE. I dont plan to have more than one heli.

My idea now is to get a decent TX, like futama 6 or 7 ch. And get trex 450 electric to learn. Is this a good idea? I know i will probably crash many many times, and its probably more expensive to fix, but trex just looked so awesome.

Is there anyone here got a trex as first heli?

The TREX 450 SE is great, just make sure its the V2. It is a good little heli and although not necessarily as easy to fly as larger helis is very stable and there's loads of support on here.

Also you would be well advised to buy a DX7 (spektrum 2.4Ghz) as opposed to a 35Mhz TX. Especially with the carbon TREX and as I assume you will be flying in public areas as opposed to a club.

There is a lot to be said for buying the right heli first and therefore not wasting money on helis you either grow out of or are unsuitable in the first place.

How come you decided against the blade CX? They are a great way of getting a real heli up in the air with less risk.

      hi

I know i should really first focus on flying skill instead of look, but i really hate the look of blade CX. i know i will grow out of it very soon.

Would you advice to get a ARTF or kit? Some pilots here seem to suggest getting a kit and learn to put it together as it would help with repair. I have never attempted one before and i doubt i have such skills anyway.

Get the kit, for the reasons you quoted - it has a pretty decent manual and if you get stuck, people on here will help if they can

The trex is a cool heli as you say but not so cool smashed to bits so if you do go that root put the time in on the sim first, expecially this time of year with the strong winds, sims are priceless as smaller helis struggle in the wind and would be almost impossible to control for a begineer.

I Learned on a T Rex 450, There great. The Bling, 450se V2 is a nice machine, but its expensive, It Mite pay to get something like the 450 XL which is their plastic version. If your learning, there great. I crashed mine loads and didnt do any frames. also, there relitively cheap. Spend what you save on the cheaper heli, on better gear to put in it. Get the Futaba 401 gyro, 9257 servo, hs 56 or 65 on the head, and either the Futaba 6Ex 2.4ghz, of the Spektrum DX6i or 7. You cant go wrong. Spend the money on the quality gear, and it will slip into a quality heli when your done spanking it!!!!!!

The motor and ESC will be fine.

The Maxwell servos will work for a while, but they are poor quality servos - at least the ones I've seen are...
Hitec servos (HS56 or HS65) would be much better.

The Align gyro might work... but you would be better off asking them if you can swap it for a better one, such as a GY240 or GY401 - or maybe the LogicTech/Hitec.

If there is an option for you to buy 2.4ghz radio gear, I urge you to do so - these small heli's can be a glitch-fest on 35mhz.

                      Cheers,
                      Rob

Be careful, a mate of mine got a T-Rex 450, he quickly lost interest through crashing it all the time. I went down the Contra route as they are much easier to fly while learning. Just my 2 Penneth. Another mate started out with Blade CX and he is still loving RC helis.

                          Hi Spaceman,

I have just got in to this hobby with a Blade CX2. Take it from me, if you haven't flown rc helis before, or RC aircraft at all, then I strongly recommend getting a contra to learn the basics on...its much kinder to the wallet. As much as you might have a budget of $4-500...do you also have a $100 budget per month to repair your heli after..."incidents" and collisions?

I bought a CX2 for £120 and in two weeks I have bought replacements for:

                          - upper rotors (£6)
                          - lower rotors (£6)
                          - inner shaft (£4 - thank god for an aluminium/aluminum upper head)
                          - outershaft (£8)
                          - extra battery (£15)
                          - replacement rear-body (£14 - the missus flew it in to a ceiling fan! )

Anyways, although UK prices are higher than US, these little escapades have cost about £30-35 (not inc. extra battery) in just two weeks. Now, although I am now much better and have learnt alot by repairing it, found out how to set it up corrctly etc, thats a 30% cost of the original heli in just two weeks!

I expect my repair bill to now drop dramatically, until I get overconfident again, so the point I am making in a long-winded way is this...

                          1. You WILL spill it and damage components
                          2. You WILL constantly bleed $ to repair various bits and pieces
                          3. Contra helis are the most stable to begin with, can you imagine how unstable a "proper" heli is?
                          4. Contra helis allow you to safely and cheaply learn some of the basic controls and dynamics of ground/wall/ceiling effect. I emphasis safety because even the plastic blades on a contra can draw blood (when you try to catch it from an inevitable crash/fall).

As with anyone, its your hard-earned cash etc, but in good faith I strongly recommend a cheap/basic/stable heli to start with (no matter what brand/manufacturer).

Whatever decision you make, happy flying and learning, I too plan to progress to bigger and better things, just as soon as I can fly my CX2 from one end of the house to the other without collision and learn nose-in...thats when I know I am ready to invest/write-off some more money on a CP heli

                          Brewber.

Hi guys thanks for the advice. I have contacted Fung from flying hobby, it appeared that some of the members here had positive things to say about him. I have asked for the price for an upgarded gear.

I have not made up my mind...its just so difficult wth so many choices. I am still looking at Belt CP, HB kingII and Trex 450s, even looking at Zoom or Gaui ep100....

This is the RTF model you need:

It has metal geared servos that won't break, and a 401 which will help you learning.
