      Hi there,

My son and I have come over from the dark side flying planks. Alex is now totaly hooked on helis and waiting on the sale of his last plank to fund a new 700.

You will find this place full of friendly people who can answer any questions you have.....even the stupid ones.

Hi Alex, welcome to the forum. As miniman said there are lots of friendly knowledgeable people on here willing to help. I too came over from the other side...I now predominently fly heli's with the occasional flight on a plank to relax

£400 will get you a complete kit for a flybarless 450 sized model, if you want to go bigger (and I'm sure you will) then for a 500 you'll need another £100 to £150 on top. A 500 is a good sized heli as it is big enough to handle a stiff breeze but not that big that the crash repair costs leave you bankrupt

good reading here........RC Helicopters, The Most Fun And Rewarding Of All RC Hobbies.

I found this site really usefull as a newb. covers just about all you need to know as you start out. I was also given a copy of the ebooks on set up and they were well worth having (that was fb at the time)

As for your budget, It would get you a really nice 2nd hand flybarless trex 500 and leave you some extra for a few bits that you will also need (packs, heli tools etc...) The 500 is perfect. big enough for the wind, more stable that the 450, and again, not too expensive on repairs or lipos. The moment you go over 500 size everything gets expensive (spares, lipos, charge setups etc)
Crash a 500 (or 450) size heli a few times and learn to fly well before you go bigger would be my advise. As you have a 130x, skip the 450 size for now and go 500 for sure. Do your new moves first on the 130x, then do it with the 500. 500's are great.

edit. one of my favourite 500 vids...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lK8YkCpJ2sM

Simples - Blade 450X - It is the Dogs Doodahs and with the space cash you can buy loads of Lipos.
Been there and done that, but never stop learning.
Now too many Helis to mention?

As all ready been said totally recommend this site RC Helicopters, The Most Fun And Rewarding Of All RC Hobbies.his e-books on setup are fantastic for the novice plus finless bob vids you can't go wrong.
I'd go for the Trex 450 sport as its tail is belt driven you won't be replacing crown gears all the time, get a nice set of training gear.
              Cheers Dave M.

I would agree with that budget the way to go is the 450X, and possibly a DX7s or DX8 what ever takes your fancy! Would be a great setup!

Thanks for the replies guys So it seems a 500 is the way to go then, I could possibly stretch the budget a bit but it seems you get better bang for your buck on the S/H market.

As radio gear subject was raised , I have an Aurora 9 and a ff9 with a specky module which would be the best to use for heli?

                    oh i fly mode 2

Heard good things about the hitec. Another vote for the 500, its size helps for visibility which is good for orientation.

If you're not fussed about the model being new then second hand is the way to go, after your first major crash most of the heli will be new again anyway HOWEVER you need to either buy from someone reputable (on here or BMFA, NOT ebay unless you want to take a chance) or have someone who knows about helis look it over....goes without saying really i guess!

not so sure about buying off bmfa , have been ripped off twice. And i would not even consider buying a heli off flea bay as i dont even know what i'm looking at.

I am not in a rush as the 130 is fine for now.
