Hi, i have just bought a 2nd hand raptor 30 v2 built but not flown along with a hirobo xrb to learn with. To cut a long story short, after a lot of crashes and blade sets for the xrb i bought real flight g4 simulator.
All is going well and i can hover and generally manouver around, although landing with heli facing me is more luck than judgement.

I took the raptor out and got it running, so far so good. As soon as it was off the ground the tail was turning anti clockwise, even with the trim fully adjusted i still had to hold pressure against the control to hold it steady and it felt nothing like the simulator. To be honest it was all over the place and kept drifting off to the left.

After an hour of dodgy spinning flight manouvers i decided to take it home and try to work out why it was so out of control.
I compared the connection rod lengths to the measurements given in the manual and found they were up to 8mm different from what they should have been.
I have adjusted them to the correct measurements, but now wonder if i have done the right thing. I havent had a chance to take it out again.

So.....should they be exactly as the manual shows? have i done the right thing?

    & HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

it would probably be better to take it to a local rc heli club and have some1 to go through it with you.

you might even get a responce from a heliaddict member who is local to you and willing to meet you and help set it up.

    good luck - matty
    cheers

Not a member yet. I was wondering if there are any local clubs. My big problem is getting time to fly. Family life and commitments you see. Where do you fly?

Chelmsford Model Flying Assoc, based just near Roxwell - so about 15 mins drive to you and me.

              http://www.cmfa.org.uk/where_and_when.htm

Membership is now open - not sure if there are any spaces as I have only just joined myself, but they're a good bunch of heli chaps there.

              It sounds like:

              1. the rudder push rod length needs adjusting to trim the rudder - this is best done in rate mode (i.e. not heading hold).

              2. Swash needs leveling

Is it the 30V2 kit with the CSM gyro on Revolution?
Where have you tried flying it so far?
              Regards,

Yes it has the csm gyro. I took it down to the football pitch @ sandon. Just wanted to see if it would hover really.

What does rate mode mean? What is heading hold? I really am very new to rc helis!!

                    Gyro
A gyro is an electro-mechanical, or electronic device which aids in the control of an R/C model. The gyro senses motion in one axis, and directs the servo to counter that motion. The sensor, which can be a mechanical gyroscope, or an electronic piezo crystal, detects unwanted movement. The gyro then instructs the servo to counter for that motion. At all times, the radio commands will override the gyro command. The level of control the gyro had is adjusted by the GAIN setting.
Mechanical Gyro: uses a mechanical gyroscope (similar to the child's toy) to sense movement.
Piezo Gyro: uses a piezo crystal to sense movement.
Non-Heading-hold vs. heading hold: A standard (nonHH) gyro senses movement and makes an effort to counter that movement as long as it feels it. Therefore, it is NOT going to return the model to the exact heading prior to the movement. Heading Hold (or AVCS) gyros will lock the model into one position, and accurately correct for movement by sensing rate of change and returning at that same rate.
SMM technology: utilizes a microchip to sense movement and provide all readings. Experiences minimal effect from temperature change, commonly known as 'temperature drift' which affects piezo and some mechanical gyros.
                    Some more definitions here

If you have a spare hour you can pop over and I will take a quick look for you.
                    Regards,

Heading hold is the Gyro setting that holds a particular heading (magnetic0 v Rate which stops it moving from the current direction by sensing movement. (I think, but not well put)

Go to http://www.raptortechnique.com/index.html for all you need to know.

As a VERY rough start, when you have switched on and the gyros & servos have settled, the pitch slider on the tail should be 1/2 way along the shaft & the pitch lever (the grey plastic arm) should be at 90 deg to the spindle where it operates the slider & parallel to the boom where it has the link to the operating rod.

Not well explained!!It is New Years Day.

Da l - the gyro you have is non-heading hold.

                          Some more info here:

                          http://www.littlerotors.com/whatyouneed/gyro.aspx

Whilst it will work - you will find things easier with a heading hold gyro such as a Futaba GY401 or similar.

If you are on the sim and want to practise with something closer to what you have, make sure you have your model set up with non-heading hold on, not sure how you do this on G4 as I have Phoenix.

It would be much appreciated if i could pop over one day just so you could confirm a few things! My number is 07866452780. Im feeling pretty rough with man flu at the moment but can normally do most evenings or saturday afternoons.
