Beautiful sunny day to day but dammed windy at the flying field. Went for it anyhow and had loads of fun hovering with 30 degrees of bank and fighting the transitional life at every gust. Did wonders for my confidence and ability to hover, if I can hover in the 100mph wind (maybe a slight exaggeration) I can hover anywhere.
Moved onto flying circuits for even more fun, rapid increase in lift on the upwind run and then banking around for the downwind and catching it as the lift disappears and it falls out the sky whilst blasting along at breakneck speed. Almost managed to maintain constant speed and height on the circuits before I ran out of batteries. Most impressed though with how well my Trex 500 handles the wind though.
Switched to the Trex 250 and had a blast with it as well, for such a small thing it did surprisingly well, bounced around a bit but generally stayed in control. Most interesting bit was trying to land on the carpet tile I'd laid on the grass to stop the tail catching. Was a case of getting over the tile and dropping pretty quickly.
Nice to know I don't need to wait for dead calm days to fly. Anybody else get out in the wind today?
Came home with two intact heli's and a big smile on my face, will seem mundane flying in calm conditions after today.

) here as well as murg but learnt early on to cope with it. I fly a bit higher than normal and try and arrange it so my back is against it. Yeah, the wee 250 can be a good laugh in a breeze but it does take its toll on the battery. By contrast, the 500 is a real power house. It bobs up and down in gusts but monsters through most of it. The down wind leg can be awesome
