    Gear ratios usually describe the ratio between pinion and main gear, and sometimes, they also include the ratio between main gear and tail gear.

    eg. 8.5:1 = 8.5 to 1 - the gear ratio of the Trex600 nitro.

    So the motor (and therefore the pinion, being attached to the motor) will revolve 8.5 times, for every revolution of the main gear.

      i was lookin at a trex 450 and it said about the gear ratio why would some one need to know that is it o do wih head speed or somethin?

        Yes, it will affect the headspeed.
        You can work out roughly what headspeed you will get based on a few factors on the Trex450 and running those numbers through a headspeed calculator.

        These things need to know KV of the motor being used, the motor efficiency, number of LiPo cells being used and the main and pinion gear tooth counts.
