  • Well thats the first crash out of the way!

Finally plucked up the courage to take my 450 out for its first proper flight today

Did a 6 minute run of gentle flying about quite happily, Legs were shaking like a sh**ing dog but a great first flight with fast forward flight, turns, nose in hovering and everything

Then put the second pack in, did about 3 minutes then dumb thumbed it into the ground pretty hard on its side

    The damage:

    Main blades
    feathering shaft
    flybar
    main shaft
    tail boom
    lower frame
    bottom plate
    motor mount
    skid tube
The canopy will go again with a few scars to remind me

There don't appear to be any broken servos so thats a result

I came home a bit gutted but relieved in a way as the fear of the first crash was holding me back a bit

No pics it looked pretty hideous so i came home and ripped it to bits and replaced shafts and flybar etc as i had them

The satisfaction of the first flight far outweighs the outcome of the second so don't be sad for me people

Its the first "Step" of the learning curve

    I'm going shopping now

whereabouts in devon? i was there over easter weekend. Bideford. Brought my mcpx with me so i could at least fly still even if it's just outside the house.

Lifton which is about 40 miles from bideford

Update: the 450 is all back together now the postman was kind gave it a battery of hovering out the back but it was fairly gusty so left it at 1 battery for fear of writing it off again, I think I need a swash levelling tool it was a bit off, tweaked it a bit but I'll save the testing for when the wind dies down a bit

All seems to be ok had a couple hovers out in the garden, I think I need to add some weight to the front as it is tail end heavy when hung by the flybar and when flying it wants to reverse

Add a little trim I find I have to do this with my 600s using different lipos (revo's & turnigy's) the revo's are a little heavier so they have a tendency to drop the nose slightly.

I'll give it a go, didn't want to put too much trim in for some reason but I suppose that's what it's there for

That first serious whack is a real downer, sets you up nicely for what to expect the next time I found. Now after easily a dozen soil hardness trials I've not got any better at flying, but don't give a sh*t when I do plonk the 450 down unceremoniously, well not too much anyway. And of course now know what spares to have plenty of. All part of the game buddy and sharpens your reactions no end too. Good innit !

Trex 450 SEV2, hack, freeby, but getting expensive. Binned the bu**er !

mCPX, better than a Phoenix anyday.
                          Several planks, gathering dust.

Brains and thumbs work okay, but not at the same time.
