    Hi,

Used to own a Raptor 30 and sold it about 5 years ago as found the motors hard work

Rencently noticed a number or ep kits available with tx for under £200 and wondered if they were any good and if you guys would recommend any specific clone or recon i should just stay clear unless its a genuine kit (which i cant afford)

I was looking for one from 5starhobbys.com

    Any advice is appreciated

    Cheers
    Darren

5Starhobbies is in Nevada? Can't see anything on there either.

£200 is going to put you at the lower end of the market, especially in terms of electronics.

A cheap(ish) way in would be a Spektrum DX6i, or Turnigy computer radio - decent one, not the cheaper models, HK, CopterX or Tarot 450 clone plus electronics. Don't go for a RTF model, get a barebones kit and choose your own electronics.

I've never used one, but the people I've spoken to who have one rate it highly.
Might be best to wait until a user of the 9x turns up for a more personal opinion.

I brought a Turnigy 9x firstly to practice on a sim. Ended up getting a Trex 500EFL. which is great. Bit paranoid about having such a nice heli and cheap radio but it does everything I need. I replaced the battery pack that wasn't the best fit with a lipo. Got sick of chewing through AA's. So far it has done the job just fine. About 35 flight under my belt all self taught. Space is a problem with the big ones. Not sure how you go in Hong kong. I am living in Qingdao and a little hard to find. A guy we fly with has a blade Mpcx clone. For a micro heli I was amazed at how well it fly. Thinking about getting one so can fly more oftern in smaller spaces. Full 3D micro heli that you can fly outside. Batteries are a big expense with electric. I only have 3 and dont own a car. So need to rely on someone else or can only do 3 flights a day. Can spend more the $200 just on a decent charger or a few batteries. Electric is nice but. Just something you need to think about.
Send us a message if you need any help with T9x settings.

The Flasher clones from Wings Wheels and Rotors are good. They are stopping doing them and selling them off cheap. I bought a Flasher Sport for £79. Lots of spares available from Align or from clone people. I would definitely go for a carbon frame. TowerPro servos are good for about £6 and there's an Assan 250 gyro that's mems for about £10. Some clone parts do not last as long as the Align ones, but you can replace them when they wear out. There are good motors for £10 from GiantCod. The 450 clones are good helis to start with. Fibreglass blades are cheap as well at £3 and ok for hovering and basic stuff. The Gooch range from Helis in Devon are well though of. You do need to check everything though as quality tends to be very variable. The Assan 250 might need a digital servo. Second hand Align is very good for heads as people are going to flybarless.

On the local version of ebay here Dx6i seem to range from about $70 to $250. Not sure why such a big difference? Maybe different features or some fakes. The Turnigy9x I have is about $50 and so far has worked perfect on my trex500 after about 30 flights. Have just setup idle up 1 and 2. Throttle hold and gyro rate and heading mode all worked first time. Still have channels to spare. Such a cheap radio makes me a little nervous but no problems to date. Maybe depends where you are buying stuff what you have to pay.
Watched a clone 450 and 500 flying on the weekend. Certainly fly way above my current skills.

CopterX are not bad. Need a bit of TLC but good value.
But, whatever you do, don't get RTF, ARTF or anything else that claims to be ready to fly. They aren't. And the electronics are generally poor.

For CopterX, go to source - eHirobo, and get a barebones kit. Don't get anything else from there though.
Electronics need to be carefully chosen.
For a basic setup, you'll need:
TX - DX6i or Turnigy 9X are both good value. 2nd hand should be fine.
RX - Spektrum AR6100 or Orange RX 6 channel
Motor - Turnigy 2215H or 2218H from HK are both good
ESC - Platinum 40A from GiantCod is good.
Cyclic servos - MG90 *3 from Heliguy, or HK or the bay. Avoid SG90 like the plague
Gyro - Assan GA250 from HK is, in my opinion, the best budget gyro. Easy to upgrade when the time comes.
Tail servo - Align DS520. Not the cheapest but ideal for a 450
Batteries - Turnigy or Zippy 2200 30C - as many as you can afford from HK
                            A decent charger

Nothing there is top end or expensive but will get you a reliable heli for a low cost.

The link doesn't appear to include TX, RX, batts or charger so whatever you do you need to factor that in.
