      MCPX experience

      So, have MCPX all set up on the DX6i, tested and working well (on the ground as can't fly yet). Get a bit of board and draw a square on it (as per Radds training). issues i'm having;

      1) Radd suggests spinning up slowly - my mcpx has a tendancy to stick then suddenly spin up with a jerk (not anywhere enough to reach take-off speeds but not possible to do gentle spin-up)

      2) the board i'm using is quite slidy and whilst heli does excellent job with a little input from myself at keeping tail at 6 o'clock the heli gently slides to the left and out of the box, if I try to correct it with cyclic the heli just lifts left skid (looking from rear) and doesn't move back.

      3) as inevitably happens (discipline well out the window) I decide to go airbourne in a smallish room, whilst it is very stable and gyro holds tail well, I struggled to control as cyclic felt unresponsive and slow to react. I have expo at 30% I am going to adjust expo to 10% and take it to a large open (grassy) space today to see if I can hover it. Whats the worst that could happen ;-)

      I really should wait till the flight sim arrives in a day or two but I guess if I use it over grass I can't do too much harm

      Any comments much appreciated (especially to find out if the mcpx spin up is the same on yours)

      Thanks

      Craig

        Well this tree jumped out and snapped my tail, seriously though was going well when a gust of wind swept the tail round so it was nose in AArrgghh and then promptly lost control and hit a tree 20ft away (god it moves quick when you push the stick the wrong way!). Fortunately I practised flicking throttle hold and managed in time so no other damage done. I was under the impression the tail gyro would stop the tail being blown out of shape, especially when just hovering?

        Anyway, for a few pounds ordered a couple of carbon tail booms which should arrive tomorrow and will try again well away from trees!!! Hopefully my sim arrives tomorrow (I think my little mcpx will be relieved if it does!)

            You need to practice getting out of nose in, and back into tail in. Once you've done that you would be back in control. The mcpx is small for outdoors and you probably had too much of a gust. There usually isn't enough time to think with helis when the unexpected happens and it needs to become automatic, and you need to handle the extra stress of controlling something that will break if you do something wrong. That takes time, but it will come.It seems to come from nowhere, one day things are impossible and then things start to work. It's a good feeling. Glad you got the DX6i, now if you have any issues you will have lots of people to help and you'll see what's happening on the tx display. Try not to be to ambitious to begin with. Just take off and landings will teach you a lot. You need to know what the heli will do before you tell it to. You will also find that you often have a lot more time to react than you might think. Make sure you make the right control movement.

              I've done something similar. My mate has a belt CPX in his case for me, coming over from America, I was watching eBay for a cheap DX6i. These do not exist, I decided to get a DX7 instead.... I have just had my DX8 system delivered from Kingslynn modelshop. Deal was too good to miss. I have no idea what to do with it, but i'm excited! I have been contemplating getting an MCPX or an MSRx for practice. I have gotten the bug and i'm not sure how......
